From the moment you step inside Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar you’ll feel like you’ve stepped right out of Brooklyn Heights and into Mexico. The warm ambiance and authentic cultural flair throughout the restaurant gives diners the feeling as if they’ve been transported for a true Mexican dining experience. To add to the authenticity of the experience, all of the pieces in the restaurant were purchased by owner Rocco Mangel himself at small villages throughout Mexico.
The fun atmosphere and energetic vibe make this spot, minutes off the Brooklyn Bridge, a great after-work happy hour option. Whether it’s a table for two, or party of five, reservations are highly recommended. The lower level of the restaurant is also home to some larger, more private dining options, making it the perfect choice for those looking to host a dinner party. They also offer events such as weekend brunch, Taco & Tequila Tuesday, and daily happy hour specials.
With hundreds of tequila options, over 400 varieties, Rocco’s Tacos is a tequila lover’s dream! The drink menu includes an assortment of margaritas, sangria, and specialty cocktails including create your own mojitos, Mexican Mule, and a chocolate martini to name just a few.
While the décor doesn’t disappoint, neither does the food. The menu is extensive but while you’re deciding on just what to eat, you’ll be able to do so over table side, made to order guacamole, mild, medium, or hot.
For appetizers, the Empanadas, served with chipotle aioli and avocado, corn, and Pico de Gallo come in a pair and are perfect for sharing. The Elotes (grilled Mexican street corn with cojita cheese, chipotle aioli and Rocco’s spice) are another great choice and come three to an order. Plus they taste delicious and are gluten free as well.
When it comes to deciding on a main course, Rocco’s Tacos has all of the dishes you’d expect to find, and then some. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty filled salad, an enchilada, tacos, or even a burger, there is something for everyone, including vegetarians and those who follow a gluten-free diet. If you’re in the mood for tacos and can’t decide on whether to order the slow cooked chicken, the shrimp, or the grilled steak, no need to worry, you have the option of ordering per taco as opposed to going with the platter of three.
Whatever you choose for dinner, make sure you save room for dessert. Charley’s Churros, the Mexican style donuts with cinnamon-caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, and vanilla ice cream is worth the cheat!
Rocco’s Tacos opening up their first location 11 years ago in West Palm Beach and has since grown with nine locations in total (all but his Brooklyn eatery are located in Florida). And although New Yorker’s don’t have the luxury of year- round warm weather, come those beautiful spring and summer days, the Brooklyn location offers outdoor seating as well.
