Roy’s parents immigrated from Kolkata to Detroit in 1986. They were born and raised in India, while she was brought up in Michigan. Throughout high school and college, she lost touch with her Indian roots and deserted her cultural identity until she found a new and beautiful connection to that part of her again. After stress took a toll on her and trying many unnatural beauty products, she looked back on recipes from her grandmother that she would use at home in her younger years.
The amazing results she saw from the natural ingredients she implemented into her life not only had wonderful physical results, but also mental as she began to feel reconnected with her Indian background. AAVRANI became her way to intertwine the two most important elements of her life and gave her the outlet to rediscover her heritage and share the benefits of Indian rituals with the beauty community.
Roy’s goal is to encourage women who struggle with their dualities to embrace and love them, not push them away. AAVRANI honors her beauty and celebrates the duality of her culture’s by combining her worlds: clinically-proven, modern-day routine and ancient, all-natural rituals and empowers other women by donating 2% of their annual proceeds to the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, which supports young women’s education in India.
