Helmed by chef Shaun Hergatt, SoHo’s Vestry is a relatively new addition to the neighborhood, having opened in October of last year. Even though the restaurant debuted amidst a pandemic, that hasn’t stopped the team behind Vestry from making waves in New York’s culinary scene.
The restaurant received its first Michelin star earlier this year, which comes as no surprise considering Hergatt’s impressive resume. After working at both the Ritz-Carlton in Sydney and New York, as well as Juni and The Setai in Miami, Hergatt opened SHO Shaun Hergatt, which earned two Michelin stars and was awarded both “Best New Restaurant” and “Best New Chef” by New York Magazine.
Now, Chef Hergatt heads Vestry, where he focuses on fresh seafood and vegetable dishes with a Japanese influence. The seasonal menu churns out beautifully plated dishes, with items ranging from nori chips (don’t skip this appetizer) and hamachi crudo to red kumamoto wagyu beef and Atlantic salmon. Dessert gives Hergatt a chance to flex his creative skills, with tongue-in-cheek dishes like the homemade cheesecake, which appears as a slice of cheese along with a tiny mouse, or his adult take on an ice cream sandwich.
Whatever you decide, a romantic evening at Vestry is definitely something you should add to your to-do list. From the thoughtfully curated menu to the ravishing interior details of the restaurant, Vestry is a special place, designed for a special occasion.
