An Intern’s Guide To NYC

Let’s face the truth: as a university student, you constantly live on a budget and it sucks! However, today I am happy to share with you how to rock NYC on a budget while experiencing this city at its very best! Firstly, there are many free events that are absolutely worth attending. Enjoying MoMa and Guggenheim Museum for free was an incredible experience even though these free-events were packed! Besides those cultural and artistic experiences, NYC offers a range of culinary particularities that shouldn’t be missed out. Enjoying the open bar on an exclusive rooftop at Park Avenue while making use of the free-first-hour bar option was another perfect event for a thrill-seeking but rather financially constrained student. For sightseeing my recommendation would simply be to walk as much as possible to really get the feel and vibe of Manhattan – inhale the outstanding architecture, the skyscrapers, the shops, the food stands…

Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge is a unique experience not only during the day but also when it is getting dark and the skyline starts to shine. Cross Brooklyn Bridge and spend an afternoon in Dumbo or stay in Manhattan and go to Battery Park where you have a beautiful view of the bay including the Statue of Liberty and it is all for free! For a closer look on the famous Statue of Liberty I recommend taking the free Staten Island Ferry that shuttles between Manhattan and Staten Island – enjoy the water, the waves, the sun and last but not least the impressive Statue of Liberty. My last tip for those who look for a more modern showplace – check out the incredible and breathtaking subway station right next to the World Trade Center designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the Oculus. This white piece of art is the perfect rounding off and there you might just take the subway straight back home after a day full of new impressions.
