Every year Delmonico’s opens its doors to the women of New York City for their annual Ladies’ Power Lunch, celebrating the date in 1868 when the restaurant first served women independently from men. The original luncheon was hosted by The Sorosis Club, America’s first professional women’s organization, who boldly hosted the country’s first ever ladies-only luncheon. Delmonico’s keeps on the forefront of celebrating women in all their glory with this annual, uplifting event, bringing together power women like Sonia Ossorio (President of the National Organization for Women, NYC), Siobhan Flaherty-Haber (Vice President of Events at James Beard Foundation), Chansi Powell, Esq. (Senior Director for Policy & Programs, Commision on Gender Equality, NYC Office of the Mayor), among many more.
The theme of the event was rebels, which was apparent with Libby Schoettle of Phoebe New York’s REBELS artwork strewn about the building, as well as rebellious female icons come to life who greeted guests upon arrival. This year’s headline chef was none other than Chef Lydia Shire, the three-time James Beard Award winner, who made history by for almost 100 years, and becoming their first female chef. Her distinguished menu celebrating the momentous occasion will be available all week until April 20th, and includes dishes like Sicilian Wedding Ravioli with Dried Apricot & Toasted Spigarello Leaves, “Crackling” Red Wattle Roast Pork Rack & Puffed Lobster Quenelles, Coffee Pavlova and the Rebel-Tini cocktail.
Celebrate the badass women in your life by supporting Chef Shire and all that Delmonico’s does for the advancement of women and get a good meal while you’re at it!
