The Monumental Rocket Sculpture by Hubert Phipps has been selected for the Art in Public Places Program of South Florida. Weighing 9.8 tons and valued at $1.5 million the rocket sculpture used over 2,000 square feet of stainless steel to create.
The sculpture, titled Rocket, is part of a cultural partnership between the Boca Museum of Art and the CP Group.
South Florida unveiled Rocket as one of the largest outdoor sculptures ever chosen for a public art initiative in Palm Beach County. Rocket is surrounded by historic buildings designed by Marcel Breuer in the 1960s, and blends the style from the buildings and brings a modern take to the location.
After taking 2 years to construct Rocket, the completed project nods to Sci Fi retro futurism and encourages visitors to walk around and underneath it. Check out Rocket in Boca Raton, FL.
