Dan Liu

The Fairy Tale of Autumn

Dan Liu is best known for his vibrant floral prints. His runway consisted of 36 looks with an emphasis on beauty and practicality, ranging from flounced sleeves, cocktail dresses, to tweed coats. Inspired by Chinese novel Journey to the West, Liu designed silk scarves in a riot of colors that lit up the cold winter. The designer showed many unexpected details that accentuated the versatility of autumn. I really like the highlight of red and pink hues in his color palette. The show also ended with a surprise that the designer himself sang, “Kissing a Fool,” while Irakli Shengelia performed a modern dance in a black costume covered in orange leaves around the runway.

Son Jung Wan

The Glamour of Fur

As one of the most popular and leading designers in South Korea, Son Jung Wan presented her new high-society collections for men and women at NYFW. Her show consisted of 21 looks featured sumptuous fabrics and luxurious fur fashion. By playing with diverse colors, such as dark red, silver, light blue, brown, and turquoise, Son’s runway reflects the continuous trend of velvet and metallic fabric in next winter. This is my favorite show so far and I think Son Jung Wan is really good at presenting chic, sexy, and gorgeous looks from women.

Leanne Marshall

 A Stunning Collection in Winter

Drawing inspirations from medieval times, Leanne Marshall’s Fall/Winter 2017 runway at NYFW featured ethereal gowns and elegant chiffon dresses that created a feeling of romantic on Valentine’s Day. Her signature flowing silks in hues of champagne and mauve is a breathtaking display and one of my favorites. Her vibrant red and black pieces are particularly glamorous in a softer color palette. The designer’s stunning designs indicate a trend of comfortable sheer fabrics.
