“TRACY FLICK CAN’T WIN” BY TOM PERROTTA | SCRIBNER
Tom Perrotta’s follow-up to the memorable “Election” (the movie version starred Reese Witherspoon in the iconic role) reintroduces us to Tracy Flick, now in mid-life. An assistant high school principal in a New Jersey suburb, Tracy is on the brink of a much-anticipated promotion. But when she is asked to serve on the committee to elect members of the school’s Hall of Fame, a former school quarterback emerges as a questionable candidate and brings up bad memories for her. As high school politics rears its ugly head for her once more, Tracy reflects on events and figures in her past that still leave her unfulfilled. Doesn’t she deserve more after all this time?
No word yet on a movie adaptation, but we’re hopeful there will be one with Reese Witherspoon starring once again.
