Celebrate France’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day!

Happy Beaujolais Nouveau day! For those of you unfamiliar with this French “holiday,” it comes every year on the third Thursday in November, marking the release of Beaujolais Nouveau wine at 12:01am, mere weeks after the grapes have been harvested. In France, the day comes with celebration — fireworks, festivals, dancing and music accompany the release of the wine. Because of the timing of the harvest, it has come to symbolize the changing of the seasons and beginning of the holidays, right in time to accompany your Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas ham.

To celebrate, French producer Les Vins Georges Dubeoeuf has released three new 2019 Beaujolais Nouveau  wines — 2019 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau, Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé and the Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau. “This vintage was strangely shaped by the weather, which means our 2019 Beaujolais Nouveau will be unique and full of individual character,” says Franck Duboeuf, son of the founder and leader of the company. Despite its modest price and reputation, Georges Duboeuf always believed it was the most complicated wine to make.

The easy drinking wine is best served chilled and approachable for any palate. “With the three Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau wines, friends and family have more options this holiday season to gift, share and enjoy the first 2019 vintage wines from the Northern hemisphere,” says Dennis Keeps, co-owner of Quintessential Wines, the exclusive importer of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf in the United States.

The Beaujolais Nouveau 2019 is comprised of 100% Gamay grapes, with a full, fruity flavor and a fresh finish. It pairs well with tapas, cheese and charcuterie, salmon and poultry and should be served slightly chilled.

The Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé 2019 is also comprised of 100% Gamay grapes, with fresh notes of grapefruit and peaches and is best served chilled. It pairs wells with appetizers, salads, burgers, pizza and fresh fruit and desserts.

The Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau 2019 is comprised of 100% Gamay grapes, with red fruits like currants and strawberries on the palate. It is best paired with grilled and barbecued meats, charcuterie, salads and cheese.
