If you’ve been skeptical about making a return to cruising since the pandemic hit, you’re not alone. I thought it would be a long, long time before I stepped foot on a cruise ship again. However, after an evening spent with the people behind Celebrity Cruises, I’ve learned that it might just be one of the safer ways to travel going forward.
With strict protocols in place, vaccination and negative covid test prior to embarkment both mandatory, and the highest levels of cleaning, a high tech infrared light that can sanitize a room in minutes, Celebrity Cruises has put my mind at ease.
But peace of mind is not all they’re offering their new guests. Earlier this week, Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo unveiled the company’s newest and third ship in its “new luxury” Edge Series, Celebrity Beyond. After the debut of the Edge series from Celebrity Cruises back in 2018, TIME Magazine named the ship as one of the “World’s Greatest Places,” and with Beyond expanding upon all of the great things about the inaugural ship, you can be sure that it will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps.
Celebrity Cruises spared no resources when designing the latest in their Edge fleet. Renowned designers Kelly Hoppen CBE, Nate Berkus and Jouin Manku collaborated with architect Tom Wright to elevate the ship to the next level, including two-story villas with private plunge pools, a rooftop garden and resort deck with cantilevered float pools, a multi level Sunset Bar at the ship’s aft, and so much more.
Aside from the unparalleled design, Celebrity Cruises also partnered with Goop CEO and Founder Gwyneth Paltrow, who will serve as Well-Being Advisor. Guests can enjoy new AquaClass SkySuites, an immersive living experience, as well as onboard wellness offerings and fitness kits from goop.
And perhaps most impressively, Celebrity Beyond’s culinary options exceed expectations and blows the competition literally out of the water, with an astounding 32 unique dining concepts on board (this includes 15 restaurants, 5 cafés and 12 bars & lounges). Leading the pack is world renowned chef Daniel Boulud, who will debut his first signature restaurant at sea, Le Voyage. Boulud worked closely with Manku to create more than just a meal, but a whole experience. Guests enter in one door and leave through another, taking a journey of their own on their trip. The smallest dining concept on board, Le Voyage only seats 50, and guests will leave their evening with a parting gift to remind them of their time inside. Travel serves as the inspiration behind the tasting menu guests can get their hands on here, accompanied by the “most awarded” wine collection at sea.
Other highlights aboard include the Sunset Bar designed by Nate Berkus, a partnership with Diageo at World Class Bar, which will craft customized bespoke cocktails, and so much more.
Celebrity Beyond’s inaugural cruise will set sail on April 27, 2022 from Southampton, England and cruise for a 10-night journey through Western Europe. Check out the video below to whet your appetite for cruising with Celebrity.
