City Opera Thrift Shop: A Treasure Trove In New York City

I love when I can share the special places in New York City, especially before the magical holiday season arrives. City Opera Thrift Shop, at 222 E.23 St., has long been my go to pleasing place.

It allows me to sort out some of my clothes, jewelry and books when it’s time to offer them a new home. City Opera Thrift Shop will find that new home and offer the profits to a charitable organization, all their proceeds (sans operating costs) go to the New York City Opera. They offer this lovely service with a rare gracious helpfulness.

City Opera Thrift gives a fast and free pick-up service Monday-Friday. They also accept drop-offs any time during store hours. All you need to do is call them to arrange a pick-up time, and they’ll take care of the rest.

Last week, City Opera Thrift Shop gave their annual vintage event. It’s their biggest fundraiser of the year; basically, “It was vintage shopping heaven.” The store was color coordinated with isles of vintage clothing, carefully curated and separated by bold colors. There was something for everyone.

Valerie Robin and Fern Feller (Donation Coordinators) and Marlene Gutierrez (Sales Representative/Stylist) were there to help as I tried on many unique styles, until I found several amazing pieces to call my own.

Famed America Opera Singer Beverly Sills once said, “Art is the signature of civilizations.”  City Opera Thrift Shop is one of the few thrift stores that strive to support the arts via selling their many pieces of artistry.

As mentioned earlier, proceeds go to the New York City Opera which was named “The People’s Opera” by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia when it was initially founded in 1943.

Seventy years later, this Opera House stays true to its original mission: to inspire audiences with captivating opera, at affordable prices, while nurturing the work of promising American artists.

Run, don’t walk to check out this jewel in the city.

It will offer you a treasure trove of vintage clothing, jewelry, accessories and furniture. There is something for men and women alike. City Opera Thrift Store allows you to explore your unique sense of style while also supporting the arts at the New York City Opera.
