Death Ave Becomes Chelsea’s Best New Greek Restaurant

Death Avenue Outdoor Dining

Death Ave is giving life to authentic Greek cuisine in Chelsea’s Hudson Yards neighborhood with great food and a hidden “speakeasy” style “tasting room” – that is home to a micro-brewery. At first, the name Death Ave gave us reservations of dropping in for a bite. But after several courses and dessert- we strongly urge every New Yorker to make reservations! Owner Michael Tzezailidis’s gives us the Greek culinary trifecta- with a café, restaurant and brewery in one spot. And with the warmer weather nearing, their outdoor space is perfect to enjoy it all.

Michael’s passion is served as “Hellenic comfort food”- with a little twist. Death Ave’s Souvlaki Tacos are a perfect example- we ordered ours with sausage. The flavor profile of the yogurt cucumber sauce keeps it light and the roasted tomatoes and sauteed onions brought Greek flavor home to our taste buds. With a fresh Citrus Hefeweizen in hand, Death Ave is like a boutique Greek “biergarten”.

Death Ave has also become known as a mixology hotspot-  and with  house made banana bourbon, it is easy to see why. You can even get a shot of the banana bourbon in a latte! They’re innovative and well manicured drinks impressed BELLA so much, we ordered many and stayed for hours.  Our favorites were the Basil Gimlet and Hibiscus Spice; but server Kay suggest the Cask Aged Manhattan.

Her service was charming and attentive- and welcomed you back.  When asked about the menu, she knew it well, making us confident in our early dinner selections.  Some of our favorites included the baby lamb chops, coconut shrimp, oysters and fried pickles. The lamb chops were covered in house made rub and bathed in a Greek chimichurri sauce to live for! Seriously, this is one of the most addictive sauces we’ve tasted in Manhattan-  so make sure to add it to your foodie bucket list.

After some good conversation and amazing beers, we just had to have dessert. Growing up on bread pudding- the roasted grape pudding was an instant must have plate. And with our servers suggestion, we ordered the baked feta cheese topped with figs and drizzled in honey. We would like to say they left us satisfied, but both were so BELLA good- we wanted more! Death Ave will be featuring a vintage movie dining experience outside this summer. So we will definitely be back for food, entertainment and another stab at the baked feta.  For more on tasting events at Death Ave, please visit here.

Tweet me @BostonScarlette if you’re in the neighborhood- I might just be dining on the latest from Death Ave’s menu in the secret tasting room. Chow BELLA’s!
