Although Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month has come to a close, it is important to continue to highlight AAPI founders who are paving the way through the world. One such wavemeaker is entrepreneur, designer, and mom, Megha Rao of holiCHIC by Megha, a NYC-based Indo-Western fusion fashion brand. The holiCHIC line represents a thoughtful movement of designing garments for quality, versatility, and longevity. With a goal of offering a tasteful Indo-Western fashion experience, leaving you feeling empowered and proud of your dual identities.
After modeling for South Asian fashion designers for over a decade, Megha Rao found a void in the South Asian fashion market – the absence of representation and fashion for the modern South Asian – American woman. In response, in March of 2015, Megha Rao created holiCHIC, the fashion label that connects and fuses Eastern and Western wardrobes, tastefully representing the modern South Asian woman. Since its foundation Megha has been balancing a full-time corporate job in finance, raising two kids, and running her fashion label as a budding entrepreneur.
Notably, holiCHIC is much more than just a fashion brand, as Megha has amassed a loyal community (79,000 and counting) of South Asian women who have learned to own and embrace their culture after growing up confused about who they are – South Asian or American. She works to inspire women to follow their dreams. Now, just one month after the 6-year anniversary of holiCHIC, the fashion label has grown beyond her wildest dreams and she’s leaving the corporate life behind to develop and foster her brand full-time – her dreams are now her reality.
