All Eyes on Her: Multi-Talented Superstar Kat Graham Wants to Change The World

Swiss-born and raised in Los Angeles, Kat Graham has been a dazzling fixture in the entertainment world since age 6. From breakout characters on the small screen (including Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire” and CW’s “The Vampire Diaries”) to big-screen roles like her recent part playing Jada Pinkett Smith in the Tupac Shakur biopic, “All Eyez On Me,” Graham already has an impressive acting career under her belt.

She even had the chance to collaborate with Prince on her recent album, and has appeared in multiple music videos for artists such as John Legend, Usher, and Justin Bieber.

We were excited to sit down with super busy—and super talented—Graham when she was in town for her Foster Grant sunglass shoot.

Tell us about Prince’s biggest influence on your upcoming album?

Prince basically decided the direction of the album. He had so much integrity in the industry and always challenged me to be better when we recorded together. Prince saw my potential to make great music for a younger generation of listeners who are not necessarily educated in the music classics.

Does your eating routine change when you’re on set versus in between projects?

I am not a big dieter because that kind of stuff can get very dangerous. I promote healthy eating habits. I stay away from sugar and processed food. I’m vegan and organic and drink a lot of smoothies and juices. However, I don’t keep myself from eating foods I enjoy, so I will eat a piece of cake if I feel like it.

What are your go-to workouts?

I always take dance classes and go running. I like taking classes at the Debbie Reynolds Studio in North Hollywood, and I love Kundalini yoga because it can be such a soulful experience for your mind, body, and soul.

What’s On Kat Graham’s Workout Playlist?

  • Anything by the Bee Gees
  • James Brown
  • Funk music
  • “Controversy” by Prince
  • “Brenda’s Got a Baby” by Tupac Shakur

We love that you are an activist and an empowered female role model. Tell us about your experiences raising awareness.

It is sometimes super difficult to be a “fashionista,” since you can get bullied just for wearing stuff on the red carpet. As an activist, it can be even more challenging to get publicity for support of the LGBQT community or my other charity work with Empower 54. I can understand why because sometimes people watch my films and listen to my music just as an escape.

Kat’s Foster Grant Favorite

There are so many amazing ones. There is a mysterious cat eye style that is so phenomenal. I’m going through a 70s disco phase, so I’m in love with the round frame—one of Foster Grant’s most playful sunglasses.

Graham’s Powerful Work as An Empower 54 International Goodwill Ambassador

This non-profit organization provides humanitarian assistance in underprivileged communities that ranges from medical missions and agricultural programs to battle hunger to access to modern education for women and girls. Graham recently traveled to Somalia to participate in an effort to get clean water to the communities in need. She has also spoken out against the United States government’s recent move to potentially slash significant foreign aid to struggling countries like Somalia.
