Isabel Varela has been working alongside National Geographic artist, Asher Jay to teach observers about the physical and mental burdens the fashion industry puts on consumers and workers.
The Clothes Minded exhibition was unveiled during the event’s gala ceremony held on Wednesday, October 10 at the Caelum Gallery. Isabel showcased three separate installations and Asher Jay exhibited Message in a Bottle, which will now be on permanent display at the National Geographic Encounter in Times Square.
The exhibition aimed to inspire men and women to make more eco-conscious decisions when shopping for their own wardrobe. The ultimate goal of the event was to educate people who are unaware of deep the unethical practices in the fashion world are, while offering some positive solutions.
Isabel said: “It starts with you and me. Together, we are capable of doing the right thing, for ourselves, fashion and the environment.”
The four-day exhibition was hosted by Isabel herself, and for more information of the Clothes Minded event and their work you can visit www.isabelvarela.com. To keep up to date with #ClothesMinded2018 and this movement, follow @iamisabelvarela on Instagram.
