Flying Solo Live Show at NYFW 2021

As the world eases back out of quarantine, New York Fashion Week is back, albeit quite different this year. Showcasing their spring fashion collaborative collection, Flying Solo made their debut at New York Fashion Week on February 13thas one of the few physical fashion shows this season.  The collaborative collection consisted of independent emerging designers from around the globe. The show took place on a rooftop with the breathtaking NYC skyline as a backdrop, defying the pandemic and the cold New York weather.

Zoonek, an American streetwear label featured in Flying Solo, showcased a collection of American-made contemporary women’s fashion with the perfect mix of couture and urban streetwear. Geoffrey Owens, the designer for Zoonek, says, “Zooonek the clothing brand is an extension of stepping out into the wild, stepping out of your comfort zone, and stepping into who you are or who you desire to be. Zooonek is an eclectic, elevated streetwear brand filled with safari prints, bold colors, and even bolder silhouettes.” Zooonek’s latest collection is Indiana Jones clashing with safari to create unique streetwear. “I was inspired to create a collection based on current events like racial division, the presidency, and the pandemic. I believe two worlds can collide and still come together to create something beautiful.”

HALA AL MAMARI, an Oman based sustainable couture brand, unveiled their collection of dresses inspired by nature and femineity. Their sunset tulle gown inspired by the horizon and the sea completely took the show and left the audience in awe.  HALA AL MAMARI line was accompanied by TREND JEWERLY, a handcrafted jewelry brand by Elena Trend in Greece.

Genzier featured upcycled 60’s couture, with one of the runway models wearing a checked set holding a sign saying, “Buy vintage, save the planet.”

Morphine Fashion featured a couture denim jacket with extravagant crystal embroidery on the back, using silk printed scarfs. The makeup on the models were very natural and dewy, allowing for the extravagant designs to really shine.

Flying Solo managed to keep the dream of innovative fashion designers alive, even during these bleak and uncertain times. This cutting-edge show from Flying Solo brought us closer to the return of the iconic NYFW and left us wanting more.
