I love our annual Beauty Issue! Not only is it filled with amazing tips, advice, interviews and products, it also allows us to delve deeper into what beauty really is, what it really means and lets us bring our tagline, “Beauty Defined By You,” into central focus.
As you can see by our amazing cover, I decided to go in another direction – spotlighting a male – for the second year in a row. (Last year’s cover of Tony Goldwyn, President Fitz Grant from “Scandal,” was a big hit!) I did this for a few reasons, but mainly to show that beauty isn’t “sold to us” through the mass media as a gorgeous supermodel with little to no body fat. I mean, how obvious is that for a cover?! Although that is certainly one form of beauty, to me, the dashing new dad and star of the breakout TV show, “Friends with Better Lives,” James Van Der Beek – along with all of our fantastic celebrity features – exude beauty both inside and out.
Inside you will also find amazing interviews with 80s supermodel-turned-author-and-TV-host Carol Alt. Tamara Tunie of “Law and Order SVU” welcomes us into her gorgeous Harlem brownstone in “Domestic Bliss.” And, NYC-based psychologist and author Dr. Joe Travella gives us a peek into his NYC favorites in our “Native New Yorker Nine.”
The message I want you to take away from this issue and all of BELLA’s media products is that beauty comes in all forms; more importantly, it’s defined by you and only you!
