Growing up stylish: Launch of children’s boutique Danrie

This year, Julia Zaborowski-Casper, mom-of-two and founder of Danrie, fulfilled her dream of creating her own expertly-curated children’s boutique. With an eye for sophisticated details, Danrie offers a curated selection of aesthetically driven apparel, toys, gifts, and more while building a welcoming community of families growing up stylishly.

Last week, Julia and her team celebrated the launch with a lovely breakfast at Bobo in West Village, New York, where they presented their beautiful pieces for the first time ever in person.

Please share with our audience what inspired you to start Danrie.

After being a full-time Mom for 6 years I was ready to get back to work and the only thing I knew for sure is I wanted to work for myself! After being out of the workplace for so long it was easy to feel like my skill set was “out of date” so I started brainstorming ideas based on what I knew….kids and being a Mom! I welcomed my second child (my son) in June 2020 and had to order everything to prepare for his arrival online instead of pursuing stores in person. During that time a lot of my favorite independent retailers around the city permanently closed their doors and I was inspired to start an online children’s shop that married the feeling of discovering special things in a boutique with an elevated shopping experience I’d expect on site that I would shop for myself on!

Which aspects do you focus on when you look for new products for your boutique?

Discovery and quality!

I want you to come to Danrie to find some of the brands you know and love but also discover new brands that you might not yet have heard of! I also want you to feel like everything you buy from us is worth your investment whether the item cost $20 or $200! We have had so much fun partnering with brands and makers we feel proud to carry and confident using in our own homes and dressing our kids in.

What was your experience like starting a business as a mother of two?

It was definitely an adjustment transitioning to both my husband and I working outside our home. I also wasn’t expecting how emotional it would be for everyone, most of all myself. I was used to being at my kids’ disposal and not missing a thing. I definitely spent some time mourning the end of my full-time Mom tenure but am leaning into all the really exciting ways I can incorporate my family into my work!

My 6-year-old daughter helps with the buying and has traveled to Paris to attend trade shows with me! She never hesitates to share her very honest opinion! You’ll see my family all over the site as they are my favorite “models”, they are also regular fixtures in the office! My late Mom was an entrepreneur and always incorporated me in her work and I love that I can now do the same with my kids. It is truly a family affair!

What do you and your team have planned for the future with Danrie?

We have so many exciting things ahead for Danrie, I truly believe we are just getting started! We are already buying into our Fall/Winter 2023 assortment which is wild given we’ve only been live for a week! I might be biased but I believe our buying is only getting better as we are getting to know our customers and we now have brands reaching out to us to be on the site!

We are dipping our toe into brick and mortar with a pop-up in New York City this holiday season and hope to open a permanent space in 2023! We have bunch of fun partnerships and activations up our sleeve as well!
