Kendrick Daye is a multi-media artist and designer, living in Harlem, NY. His diverse approach to making art include art direction, bespoke design, music, and most notably collage – both digital and analog. Through his unique and striking work, Kendrick aims to create art that imagines a future where black queer life is prosperous and thriving. With this purpose, he is creating a new lens for queer individuals to see themselves in a spiritual space that has existed for years and excluded queer voices, tarot cards.
In his latest project, the Black Queer Tarot, Kendrick is challenging outdated, non-inclusive decks of the past. This new approach takes the traditional 78-card Tarot arcana and remakes them with a diverse cast of muses. Each card’s mission is paired with a Black queer individual, and told beautifully through captivating graphics, and beautifully pastel and striking colors. This new approach isn’t just providing a fresh touch on tarot cards, but the inclusive tone is helping queer individuals re-imagine a world where they are not “just living – we’re thriving,” Kendrick shares.
The 78 cards are larger than standard Tarot cards to show off the vibrant artwork (3.5″ x 5″ or 89x127mm) and printed on premium heavyweight 350 GSM card stock to make these cards a long-lasting collector’s item. The BLACK QUEER TAROT is available for pre-order as a full 78-card deck and a hardcover companion guidebook written by Justin Henry that features in-depth descriptions of the artwork, both upright and reversed meanings and three custom spreads making this deck ideal for both beginner and experienced readers.
