Wymara Resort & Villas, Turks + Caicos

Christina Stephens – Spa Director

“When you think about a spa, the most common elements are candlelight, soft music, plush robes and slippers, and aromatherapy — if you have access to these items at home, it will be a great way to set the tone.

One of my favorite DIY tips is to make a scrub with items you are likely to already have at home, such as sugar, coconut oil and olive oil, and if you have essential oils, you can add a few drops. I love using coffee grounds and olive oil, which is good for circulation. You can apply this in the shower.

Please note, you can mix and match the type of exfoliant and essential oils to suit your taste, as well as the ratio of exfoliant to carrier oil. I like to keep my mixtures in glass containers as the oils preserve longer.” – Christina Stephens, Spa Director.

  • 1 cup natural raw sugar cane
  • (or brown sugar)

  • (You can also use the Zest & juice of 1 lime if you don’t have essential oils)

  1. Mix together
  2. Apply in a circular motion

Jade Mountain, St. Lucia

Allen Susser – Chef and Chocolatier

St. Lucia’s stunning resort, Jade Mountain, produces signature chocolate bars and confections in an on-site Chocolate Lab that’s helmed by the property’s chef and dedicated ‘chocolate alchemist.’ With more than 1,000 cacao trees on property, an organic farm where guests can participate in tree-to-bar tours to learn how the cacao is grown and harvested, and an annual Discover Chocolate Festival each December, few properties know as much as Jade Mountain when it comes to producing nature’s ‘gift from the gods.’ The property also incorporates chocolate heavily into their spa program with treatments ranging from a mocha massage to a chocolate facial, “Chocoodhara’ Ayurvedic healing treatments, a hot chocolate candle massage, and more. While they’re grounded, consumers can order Jade Mountain’s chocolate directly from the hotel’s websitefor safe shipment and delivery to their front door. Including a quote from their chef on the benefits of chocolate to help get through the chaos of today:

“Chocolate really is a comfort food; it makes one feel good. Rich dark chocolate is a mood booster, it offers emotional comfort. Chocolate promotes positive feelings as it helps in the release of multiple peptides of the brain and gut. Dark chocolate helps in the release of endorphins that affects the brain and helps in inducing a calming and soothing effect. Its abundant aromatic flavor seduces our mood and relieves stress within the first bite.” – Allen Susser, Chef and Chocolatier.
