The Garment District may only be one square mile in size, but this tiny area is New York City’s fashion capital, home to countless fashion designers, couture houses and showrooms. If you want to feel the district’s pulse, stop by Showroom New York. For the past four years, Showroom New York has helped select groups of emerging New York designers launch their labels. As part of the initiative – known as “I Wear NY” – the Showroom’s featured designers help the district continue to thrive by manufacturing their wares in the area. The Showroom is run by the Garment Industry Development Corporation (GIDC), an organization that has promoted the apparel manufacturing industry in New York City since 1984. The Showroom’s current stock includes stylish orthotic shoes by Alice Alan, high-quality leather handbags by Jacki Easlick, easy-to-wear women’s apparel by Launch by Susan Young, sophisticated women’s outerwear by Tiffany Lawrence, and luxurious cashmere neckwear by Payal Luthra.
