All Proceeds To Benefit New York City’s Underprivileged Youth
Supporters of Inner-City Scholarship Fund raised nearly $2 million at the 40thAnnual Inner-City Scholarship Fund Awards Dinner on Monday, December 12. Over 400 guests attended the event at the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan. Funds from the evening will help support Inner-City in its mission to provide tuition assistance for underprivileged students attending Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York.
His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York presented the 2016 Inner-City Scholarship Fund Award to Judy and Russ Carson, Christie and Tony de Nicola and the firm of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe for their commitment to inner-city students and Catholic schools. Stephen A. Schwarzman received the 2ndAnnual James B. Lee, Jr. LifeLink Award, for his work to connect young people to life-changing opportunities. CBS Sunday Morning’s correspondent Mo Rocca served as the Master of Ceremonies.
“Children are the future of New York City and each student has the potential to impact the community,” said Susan George, Executive Director of Inner-City Scholarship Fund. “I’m thankful that our donors agree and invest in quality education for them. It makes all the difference.”
Over the years, the Awards Dinner’s Honorees and Chairs have included many of New York City’s most powerful leaders in business, finance, government, and the arts, whose dedication and involvement have been absolutely crucial to keeping Inner-City up and running.
During the program, Yamilet Andrade of Cathedral High School spoke about the profound effect Stephen Schwarzman had on her and many other students by providing them with scholarships to attend Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York. She recalled the relationship she had developed with him and expressed her gratitude for all he had done.

Inner-City Scholarship Fund was founded in 1971 by the late Terence Cardinal Cooke and a group of prominent executives of many religious beliefs. Inner-City provides tuition assistance to nearly 7,000 students (93% minority and 33% non-Catholic). An astonishing 98% percent of seniors attending inner-city Catholic high schools graduate, and 99% pursue college at some of the finest universities in the nation.
