On January 20, 2020 Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. “Democracy has prevailed,” he said after taking the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts.
Kamala Harris was sworn in as vice-president ahead of Mr Biden. She is the first woman – and the first black and Asian-American person – to serve in a role.
Given the Covid-19 Pandemic, only about 1,000 socially distanced guests, including former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, were in attendance.
