Happy Friday, BELLAs!
The day I’ve dreaded for the past few weeks has come: today is my last day at BELLA. No need to beat around the bush – my internship here was everything I could have wanted and more. I am thankful for so many things.
I’m thankful for the personal connections and friendships I made with both the BELLA team and other amazing people I met along the way.
I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given, exploring so many sides of working for this magazine, from assisting at photo shoots to hosting a live TV segment.
I’m thankful for the experience as a whole, because it is one that will pave my way going forward. It is one that changed my outlook on many things. It has taught me a lot about not only the industry I am working in, but about myself.
More than anything I am thankful for this opportunity because it has made me truly happy and that is not always a given. It’s something you need to find and hold onto. There was not a single day that coming into the office did not make me feel like the luckiest person. (Okay, except for some mornings when New York got the best of me and I was running on 3 hours of sleep… even then I was grouchy, but still happy.) At the same time, I learned what doesn’t make me happy. These are lessons you need to learn and I am thankful that this internship played a big part in teaching me that.
Leaving BELLA today will be bittersweet, but even that is something to be thankful for. As A.A. Milne once said so accurately: “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
… On a lighter note: My internship really was the most fun, most productive and most helpful internship experience I’ve ever had. I’m not sure I’ve ever worked so hard and learned so much in such a short period of time. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to. And maybe that’s just because it really hit the spot for me personally, knowing what I want for my career. But even if you just want to explore and use an internship for what it is for most people, a trial: do it. You will not find a more welcoming and fun internship than the one at BELLA, and even if you end up in finance or who knows what after, it will probably still be one of the best internships you’ll have.
That’s it from me for now, BELLAs, thanks for taking the time to read this and for making my time here as amazing as it was! And who knows, maybe you’ll hear from me again in the future, but until then: Stay the true BELLA that you are.
All the best,
