One review from LA Times’ Gold can send a flailing business delightfully back in the black.
So it is with great interest to watch the new trailer for upcoming documentary ‘City of Gold’ where the Pulitzer Prize-winning restaurant connoisseur gives insight into his process of picking and choosing which eateries he will give his seal of approval.
Showing that food can truly unite, this richly penetrating film takes viewers along with Gold in his green pick up truck as he goes from strip mall joints to fine dining establishments, seeking out the special jewels in the Los Angeles culinary crown.
As the self proclaimed “fat man’s version of the ‘Bourne Identity,’” Gold dines at restaurants undercover so he can get a real experience instead of just special treatment for himself and the weight of his name. He even goes so far as to use burner phones and different aliases to throw restaurateurs off.
This film also showcases the multicultural melting pot of the LA food scene and how the American Dream is still alive and kicking… something to really savor.
‘City of Gold’ made it’s world premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival but will open in select theaters March 11, 2016.
