Natlyn Jones, founder of SheWarrior, is the newest — and toughest — entrepreneur to enter the athleticwear space. Wife of boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., and a boxer and trainer herself, Natlyn is a champion of female empowerment. As an African American mother of three and Florida native, Natlyn is the embodiment of strength with a welcoming, yet fierce, entrepreneurial spirit, which led her to launching SheWarrior in 2019, a boxing inspired athleticwear brand geared towards women who are ready to raise a fist. Through the brand, Natlyn is working to redefine what boxing means to women, and inviting them into the ring to nurture and grow their fighting spirit. Natlyn’s mission, and passion, is leading women towards championing their health, wellness and inner warrior.
Founded by Natlyn Jones , wife and partner to boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., SheWarrior is shaking up the male-dominated stereotypes that surround boxing and strength, and inviting women to “jump into the ring” and reap the benefits, both physical and mental. A women’s athleticwear brand, SheWarrior focuses on how building strength and stamina can help women to be assertive, strategic, and unapologetic, inside and out. SheWarrior recognizes that women so often put their own needs after their loved ones, and aims to honor the inner fighter inside every woman, challenging them to embrace themselves, champion their personal victories and celebrate their bodies. SheWarrior is here to support women in both their workouts and daily lives, pairing function with fashion. In launching SheWarrior, the brand’s biggest challenge was ensuring it was sustainably made in the USA. SheWarrior is made to order, meaning they avoid adding excess stock to landfill, from upcycled plastic bottles with a local manufacturer, who uses a non-water dying method to ensure the brand has the lowest possible impact on the planet.
BELLA chatted with Natlyn to learn more about her life and love of boxing, fitness, and female empowerment…
Natlyn, tell our readers how you first got into boxing.I have been involved in the gym for as long as I can remember. Growing up, being physically active was a part of my DNA. It wasn’t until I started my family and career that I truly understood the meaning of “me time” and the need to release the stress and pressures that everyday life threw in my direction. Boxing was introduced to me by my husband, Roy Jones Jr., years ago and I haven’t looked back since. It’s the perfect way for me to step away from reality while strengthening my mind and body all at the same time. The ring has become my relaxing place.
Wife of boxer, Roy Jones Jr., and a boxer yourself, I’m sure you are each other’s biggest supporters. Is there something you have each been able to learn from each other when in the ring? The number of things I’ve learned from Roy in the ring far surpasses the number of words I can put to paper. If I would have to pick the most important one I would have to say, “don’t fight off of emotion because you don’t make the best decisions in that state. Stay focused stay smart and things will fall into place.” This is something that I think holds true whether I’m in the literal ring or the ring of life. I wish I could say I’ve taught him a million things in the ring but, I seriously doubt I’ve taught him anything. He’s a 9-time world champion and 2022 boxing hall of fame inductee, so that pretty much sums it up lol.
Tell us a little bit about SheWarrior and your inspiration for creating the activewear line? As a boxer and trainer, did you feel something was missing from most activewear on the market? After maneuvering through a few different career paths over the years, I ended up circling back into fitness, both as a trainer and boxer myself. Looking around and seeing women in your usual athletic apparel made me stop and think there might be something missing in the athleisure wear market. As a busy mother myself, I know how hard it is to get to the gym and felt strongly about creating pieces that double both as workout gear and styles that you can feel confident in while running around town. And as the cherry on top, SheWarrior is 100% sustainably made from the materials to the coloring process to manufacturing.
Empowering women has always been near and dear to my heart. Having the opportunity to combine that with my love of fitness and fashion seemed almost too good to be true. Taking a step back, SheWarrior has come so far from an idea I had while working out to sketches at my kitchen table to a shoppable collection. It seems like a dream to have come so far in such a short amount of time.
As a champion of female empowerment, and a woman breaking down stereotypes surrounding women in boxing, what’s one piece of advice you like to share with your female followers and fans?I would say always be you. Don’t allow society and stereotypes define you or box you in when it comes to going after your goals and living your life.
