How Katie Willcox is Making Healthy the New Skinny

After enduring countless negative experiences working as a model, international model Katie Willcox saw an opportunity to become a voice for female body image activism.

As CEO of the top modeling agency on the West Coast for models sized 6-16, Natural Model Management, Willcox is breaking boundaries in the modeling industry. Their models have been featured in major campaigns, including Forever 21, Elle, H&M, and Nordstrom with features in magazines like Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Glamour, Shape Magazine, and Women’s Health Magazine.

Willcox is also the founder of a thriving social movement thanks to her book “Healthy Is The New Skinny: Your Guide To Self-Love In A ‘Picture Perfect’ World.”

“I wanted to make health a priority in an industry and society that values skinny above all else, and educate people about media manipulation to empower women to choose health over the beauty ideal.”

Willcox’s Tips for Those Struggling with Size:

  • Understand that everyone has a natural size and weight. You are lovable as you are now—your body doesn’t dictate who you are as a person.
  • Your goal weight is most likely too small. Having an unrealistic size expectation often leads to undernourishment and over exercising.
  • Be honest with yourself and evaluate if you are happy and if you feel well. If not, even small, healthy changes can have a profound effect on your life.
