Let’s Make Waves

As a celebrity hairstylist, I haven created waves, braids, and iconic red-carpet styles on the most talented and beautiful women in the world. Over the years, beauty editors would interview me to help everyday women recreate these celebrity looks.

One day I was on the phone with an editor, explaining how to create the perfect beachy wave, and I said, “Hold the curling iron upside down and wrap the hair backwards and away from your face!”

She laughed and said, “It sounds so complicated – upside down and backwards!”

I Expressed how I wished there was an easier way. I immediately sketched out the idea for a curling iron you could hold upright. To curl both sides and go away from the face, I designed a rotating iron that would revolutionist the way that women curl their hair.

The concept was simple: You’d be able to hold the iron upright, a little clamp on the bottom would hold the end of the air, and a “go” button would give you full control of the rotation so you could curl your hair into the perfect beach wave in minutes!

I shared this idea with my sister, Erin Potempa-Wall, and she took a leap of faith, quit her job as a corporate lawyer, and invested the following two years into research and development to help me create this new product. From that moment on, we made it our mission to help people around the world feel more confident and beautiful their everyday lives.

When we first started The Beachwaver Co., we were a team of two. Our sister Emily joined us. We drove the truck to deliver the product ourselves, we stored all the products in our own apartments, and we personally pitched to every buyer. We create our own content. We demo every day, and if it changes one person’s life, it’s all worth it!

With hard work, determination, and a loyal fan base, we are proud to have won over 50 beauty awards! We are extremely proud to be a women-owned, self-funded, and female-run company, and are committed to sustainability, empowerment, and making a positive impact on the world.

3 Ways to Wave

The Beachwaver curling iron can be used to easily create different types of curls – beauty waves; bouncy, polished curls; and Old Hollywood waves. Here’s how:

BEACHY WAVES

  1. Hold the Beachwaver S1 vertically. Open the clamp, leaving out about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of hair at the bottom out of the clamp.
  2. Curl hair away from your face by pressing the outer arrow, making sure to continue to hold the iron vertically.
  3. Hold at the top for 4 to 5 seconds. Gently release the clamp and pull the iron straight down.
  4. Repeat on both sides.
  5. After allowing curls to cool, brush fingers through, and spray a flexible hold hairspray all over.

BOUNCY, POLISHED CURLS

  1. Hold the Beachwaver S1 vertically. Open the clamp and place a 1-inch section of the hair in the clamp, ensuring that the bottoms of the hair are in the clamp.
  2. Curl hair away from your face by pressing the outer arrow, making sure to continue to hold the iron vertically.
  3. Hold at the top for 4 to 5 seconds. Gently release the clamp and pull the iron straight down.
  4. Repeat on both sides.
  5. After allowing curls to cool, spray an On Set Pro Brush with a flexible hold hairspray, then brush through the curls.

Pro Tip: Take large sections of hair and hold them as if you are creating a ponytail, then brush through. Continue to apply plenty of hairspray to the brush to evenly distribute the product.

OLD HOLLYWOOD WAVES

  1. Start by creating a deep side part. I like to draw a line back from the arch of the eyebrow.
  2. Blow-dry with a round brush, overdirecting to create volume.
  3. Spray a flexible hold hairspray all over.
  4. Using the Beachwaver S1, start with the bottom section, secure 1-inch sections of hair near the end of the clamp.
  5. Holding the Beachwaver in a horizontal position, press the arrow button to rotate each section under.
  6. Hold for a few seconds, open the clamp, and slide the section straight out into your hand. Then use 2-inch duckbill clips to secure each curl at the base.
  7. Repeat section by section, from bottom to top.
  8. Allow curls to fully cool before removing duckbill clips.
  9. Spray an On Set Pro Brush with a flexible hold hairspray, then brush through the curls.
  10. Tuck the non-dominant side behind the ear, and apply a tissue, securing it with a duckbill clip.
  11. On the other side, apply a tissue and secure with 3 duckbill clips to shape the curl.
  12. Allow to cool, then remove the tissue and clips.
  13. Finish with a styling cream on the ends of the hair to smooth flyaways.
