MY BUSINESS: Laubahn Perfumes is a new fine fragrance brand that captures a world of dreams through scent. My hope is that one of my fragrances takes you on a journey to a wonderful place that heightens your day and/or evening when you wear it.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: I launched my perfume brand in December of 2018. From a very young age I was drawn to the elements of nature, especially flowers and their stunning scents. And still to this day, I remember the sensory impressions I experienced. It’s what inspired my lifelong passion for fragrances, and led me to share the power of scent with its ability to trigger an emotion and provoke an impression.
MOST REWARDING: For me, it’s following my passion. And of course, I enjoy the creative freedom that comes with owning my own business. I can just run with my ideas.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: Hard work, persistence, and the courage to follow my dreams.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: Beauty is difficult to define, but in life, as in art, beauty should move you. I often find it reflected in those things that inspire me. It’s the smell of freshly cut grass, the feel of the ocean mist spraying my skin or the sound of someone’s infectious laugh. In my mind, true beauty should give you joy.

MY BUSINESS: Glamlife Lounge is a one-stop-shop catering to your every beauty need. We specialize in hair, makeup, eyelash extensions, nails, and waxing. We provide training classes for hair, makeup, and eyelash extensions. Glam on the go is also available—we bring glam straight to your door!
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: I launched Glamlife two and a half years ago because I love the beauty industry. I wanted to provide a place where you come in and get exceptional service with the best stylists. Why travel all over when the best of the best in beauty is all in one place?
MOST REWARDING: One of the most rewarding aspects is when my daughters tell me, “Mom you’re a boss.” Wow! The journey is not easy, but to be pursuing my passion, helping others gain confidence, doing what I love and have my daughters see that is everything to me.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: Staying true to myself. If your gut is telling you something is not right, listen. I treat each and every Glamdoll the way I would like to be treated. When you love what you do, it shows; passion changes everything.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: Beauty is the way you make others feel. Beauty is confidence, kindness. It is an aura you feel when you’re next to a beautiful person—and I’m not talking looks.

MY BUSINESS: I provide makeup artistry to many different clients, from many walks of life. Whether I’m preparing for a celebrity photo shoot, wedding, bar mitzvah, makeup lesson, or any and all events in between, I work closely with my clients to develop an image that supports their personal look and works within their event and style.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: I knew from a very early age that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to make the world feel more beautiful, one face at a time. I loved the beauty industry and knew I would always work within it in some capacity.
MOST REWARDING: I have met the most wonderfully interesting people. Everyone has a story. Helping to create a beautiful face creates a level of intimacy with my clients. Some of the stories I’ve heard are like gifts—little gems that are like a light through the dark or provide moments of inspiration.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: I have been blessed with a beautiful family that helps me stay grounded starting with my parents, and including my husband, two children, and my fur babies. Everything I do is to make them proud to call me daughter, wife, mom.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: Beauty is unique to every individual and exists beyond societal norms. As a makeup artist, I have the unique experience of assisting clients so that they may experience a version of themselves they’ve always imagined or wanted to present to the world. I am blessed to be able to provide the gift of feeling beautiful to everyday women, as well as celebrities.

CHAYYA PRODUCTS INC. CEO AND FORMULATOR FOR PREVENTIVE MEASURES 101 LIP BALMS
MY BUSINESS: Chayya Products is a research and development skin care/cosmetic company. For over 25 years we have formulated mass market to luxury brand products. We now have our own brand under our company Preventive Measures 101 Lip Balms.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: In June 2016 we launched Preventive Measures 101 Lip Balms. The product was formulated because my mother was diagnosed with cancer. While going through chemotherapy treatments, her lips were extremely dry. I created the lip balm with her in mind using ingredients that are toxic free and safe for anyone living with a diagnosis of dry, flaky skin and for everyone who wants healthy and sexy lips 24/7.
MOST REWARDING: The most rewarding aspect of running my own business is formulating meaningful products and bringing health and beauty awareness to men and women around the world.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: Besides hard work and dedication, my secret is to explore all options and scale up appropriately.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: I define beauty as confidence; when you look great, your aura emanates you to feel great, and that makes you conquer the world.

DIVINE DIVAS COLLECTIVECO-FOUNDER
MY BUSINESS: The vision of the Divine DIVAS Collective is a place for women to learn self-healing practices they can incorporate into their lifestyle no matter how hectic life becomes. It is essential for us as nurturers and caregivers to invest as much energy into caring for ourselves as we do others. We offer individualized self-care planning and guidance and group workshops.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: We initially launched the idea in January 2018 because my daughter, Jordan, and I had both been diagnosed with autoimmune conditions that altered the plans we had set for our lives. Through our experience we came to the realization there were warning signs we ignored. We wanted to teach women how to connect with their inner selves and recognize what their bodies are telling them before it turns into disease.
MOST REWARDING: Collaborating with my daughter and hearing our DIVAS share how the experiences have inspired them to incorporate self-care into their lives.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: Being willing to fail, reinvent myself, and get back up….keeping the vision in view and not succumbing to naysayers. We believe DIVAS are Determined, Inspired, Vivacious, and Authentic, so we work to embody that message every day.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: In my opinion, Confucius described beauty best, “Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it.” There can be something mesmerizing about those who exude confidence and embrace what others may consider flaws. As I have gotten older, I have learned to embrace my own flaws and overcome self-esteem issues. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with glamming it up to release your inner DIVA.

HAVEN SPA CO-FOUNDER
MY BUSINESS: We’re a day spa that offers skin, body, and nail care. We create relaxing and efficacious treatments that allow our guests to feel good about taking care of themselves.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: We opened Haven in 1998. We wanted to offer spa services in a relaxed and friendly environment. Many of the spas we visited were corporate and not very warm. We wanted to provide a “haven” in the city—a safe place for people to come to relax and get their beauty “stuff ” done.
MOST REWARDING: I think it’s being in charge of your own trajectory. There’s no one to tell you what to do, or when and how to do it. It’s all you. It’s not for the faint of heart—when things don’t go the way you hoped there’s only one person to blame, and that’s yourself, and that can sting. But when things go right—when you have a happy staff, happy customers, and recognition—it’s very rewarding. I couldn’t do what I do without our staff and customers, for sure, but knowing I was the one who set us on course and brought us to where we are feels great.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: Surrounding myself with competent, smart, hardworking, loyal people. They’re very hard to find, but they’re vital to success.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: Beauty is about taking care of yourself, inside and out. Remember that movie, “Shallow Hal”? I think that sums it up perfectly. There are people who work so hard on making their outside look great (or what society tells them looks great, really), but they’re empty inside; there’s nothing there. They’ve spent all of their spiritual capital on Botox and Sephora. There are others who don’t conform to what magazine covers are telling us is beautiful, but their kindness, inner spirit, and generous soul makes them beautiful. It’s a balance.

MY BUSINESS: Our offerings include eyebrow shaping through threading and eyebrow shape enhancement through eyebrow tinting. Additionally, we are highly successful with our Lash Lift and Lash Tint services. What really appeals to customers is accessibility to the location; flexibility in scheduling; highly inviting demeanor of the staff; familial treatment by the owner; use of natural, approved, and safe products; and focus on the well-being of our clients.
WHY I LAUNCHED IT: I have been building up my practice for at least 10 years as an independent contractor until I started my own practice in January 2018. My intended position in the hearts and minds of my clients was to render services that improve people’s lives of and positively impact the community with my business activities.
MOST REWARDING: The opportunity to offer superior value and quality to our existing and potential clients drives us to push forward in our mission. I find meaning in my business continuation through this purpose of serving the community and my social responsibility.
SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: We are about nurturing a loyalty- and satisfaction-based relationship with our clients. We want to make them feel special and good about their beauty initiatives and health choices. The most distinctive aspect of our operation is an honest evaluation of a client’s needs and agreement on mutual expectations.
HOW I DEFINE BEAUTY: My definition of beauty is somewhat abstract in that it is revealed by the drive, initiative, and action to achieve one’s fullest aesthetic and character potential. To me, beauty in character and beauty in image are inseparable and go hand in hand.
