Moms Helping Moms Foundation (MHM), a NJ baby supply and diaper bank, will recognize National Diaper Need Awareness Week (DNAW) from September 27 – October 3 with a Drive-Thru Diaper Donation Collection Event. This important event will be held on Saturday, September 25th, from 9am – 12pm, at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 Springfield Avenue, New Providence NJ. Participants are asked to donate packages of diapers, baby wipes, and baby hygiene products. The event will be held in the Church parking lot and will be a contactless drop-off.
Diaper need is defined as the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant or child clean, dry, and healthy.Currently, diapers are not subsidized by federal or state assistance programs such as WIC and SNAP. When a family cannot provide an adequate supply of diapers for their child, their child is unable to participate in early education programs such as daycare, and family members face missing work or school.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Moms Helping Moms has seen a significant increase in the needfor diapers and essentials. They more than doubled their distribution efforts in 2020, distributing 633,915 diapers (128% increase from 2019) to 101,127 underserved children and individuals in New Jersey (212% increase from 2019). As theneed for diapers and other essential items continues to grow, community and individual donation drives help ensure MHM can continue to meet this increasing need.
The goal of the Drive-thru Donation Collection Event is to offer the community an opportunity to give back to NJ families in need and help replenish the organization’s supply of diapers, wipes, and hygiene products. Moms Helping Moms has also set up a virtual diaper drive campaign for those unable to attend the event. To participate visit: https://yougivegoods.com/mhm-allsupporters
If you can’t make the drive on September 25th, BELLA’s Lauren Vena will also be hosting a diaper collection on Sunday, September 26th, from 9am – 11am, at Marlboro Township Recreation, located at 1996 Recreation Center Drive in Marlboro, NJ.
Started in 2012, DNAW is an initiative created by the National Diaper Bank Network to bring national attention and mobilize efforts to end diaper need. Diaper need is experienced by one-in-three families in the United States, and more than a quarter of families experiencing diaper need rely on diaper banks to help fill the gap (source: Diaper Need and Its Impact on U.S. Families study conducted by the National Diaper Bank Network and Huggies.)
Moms Helping Moms Executive Director Bridget Cutler states, “Chances are we all know someone, or have been the person, who has or will experience the struggle to afford diapers. Raising children is hard enough without having to worry about whether you have enough clean diapers. Moms Helping Moms is here to help parents and raise awareness about the critical role that diapers play in the health and well-being of families.”
Founded in 2011, Moms Helping Moms provides low income children with essentials like diapers, wipes, clothes, shoes, strollers and more. Each year, Moms Helping Moms distributes more than 900,000 items to local families throughout New Jersey. To learn more, or to donate, please visit momshelpingmomsfoundation.org
