Nobody wants to dress up every day. Sometimes, the casual look is needed to relax in and get on with the day’s tasks. However, that doesn’t mean you want to sacrifice on style! The key is to go for the cool but casual look. How do you do it? Use my tips!
Mix Casual Pieces With Dressy Pieces
I think that casual pieces mixed with dressy pieces is the way to go these days. If you’re confused about whether you should be fully dressed up or casual, this is a great in between. You can create your own looks by mixing casual dresses with heels and bomber jackets, or even by wearing training shoes with a nice dress. Casual Dansko shoes would look nice with a pretty two piece. It works, you just have to try it and find what works for you!
Layer Up Your Outfits
Layering is a must for everybody! It’s brilliant when you don’t know what the weather is going to be like, and you can take away layers or add them as you please. You can create a totally different look every time with layering. The idea is to create a look that’s balanced but has texture and depth. There are tutorials online if you need help!
Stick to Neutral Colours
Neutral colors aren’t too ‘look at me’! Bright colors are nice, and you can wear them if you like, but they draw a lot of attention. I prefer wearing brighter colors when I’m trying to make a statement. If I’m going for a cool casual look, it’s always neutrals. White, beige, brown, black, and grey are my go-tos. Sometimes, I incorporate a little bit of color with accessories. For example, I think black and beige with hints of red looks lovely.
Make Sure You’re Balanced
Make sure your look is balanced out and suits your shape. For instance, you wouldn’t wear a long maxi dress with a long coat, because it just wouldn’t look right. You’d also be better off wearing a long coat with a short dress, as a short coat could look too trashy. There are exceptions, but you need to use your best judgement.
Include a Small Amount of Pattern
If you love pattern, then you can include it in a cool but casual look. Monochrome patterns go with everything and can still make a bit of a statement if you can’t bear to blend in! I love jackets and coats with monochrome patterns.
Don’t Forget to Accessorize
Accessorizing is a must, even if you’re just going for cool casual. Make sure you sprinkle on your accessories to balance your look. If you’re wearing a high neck top, you won’t need a necklace. Be sensible with your choices and make sure they enhance your outfit. Too much bling and you’ll look trashy, so be careful!
With these tips, you’ll easily be able to nail the cool but casual look. Remember, you can alter these tips to suit you. It’s your own style and personality you’re trying to reflect, after all.
