It has all the charm and whimsies of Alice in Wonderland without any of the madness. Rose and Basil, a fairy-inspired, whimsical café in the East Village, recently celebrated its one year anniversary with an Insta-worthy revamp that’s already drawing in crowds.
What sets Rose and Basil apart from the rest is that it offers organic, dairy, sugar and gluten-free goodies, ranging from their cakes and chocolate truffles to specialty drinks and morning breakfast bites. And even with all natural ingredients, everything is still delicious!
The café comes to us by Ioana Holt, the owner and co-founder of Rose and Basil, who, from an early age, sought to bring natural products to tasty desserts. Not only does everything here taste great, but the best part is that nothing feels too heavy or over the top, making these sweet treats practically guilt-free.
The cakes are light and fluffy (not to mention gorgeous) and the truffles come in so many flavors that you could have a different one every day and not get bored. And while they offer a handful of savory options and organic coffee from La Colombe, we can’t help but love their rainbow latte and are looking forward to their upcoming cocktail menu to come to fruition.
And while the draw here is certainly the desserts, the space itself is a wondrous escape from day-to-day life. With flowers crawling up the walls, a selfie mirror and pink crystal wallpaper, there are plenty of spots to stage your next foodie photo shoot. We can’t wait to go back!
