The Fear is Not an Option author applies ancient spiritual wisdom made famous by Madonna to unlocking our potential for greatness
When it comes to living our best lives, “what gets in the way of achieving our goals?” asks speaker Monica Berg, Chief Communications Officer of The Kabbalah Center. “FEAR.” The self-proclaimed “Change Junkie” says that the way we experience fear is the difference between leading a life of purpose and joy, or a life of disappointment and stagnation. So what if fear was in fact no longer an option?
This is the idea behind Berg’s Wellness Wednesday speaking engagement on March 13th at the Bonberi Bodega in Greenwich Village (which is free to attend). Set in a Q&A format with Nicole Berrie, Berg will discuss ideas from her wildly popular book, Fear is Not an Option, which is a practical workbook for profound transformation. It also draws on Berg’s background with the ancient teachings of Kabbalah – a philosophy (not a religion) that empowers us to improve our lives, discover our purpose, and achieve the lasting fulfillment we deeply crave (and are meant to receive).
“For thousands of years Kabbalists have taught that every human being is born with the potential for greatness,” Berg explains, “and Kabbalah is a remarkably effective means for activating that potential.” In applying these ideas – which were introduced to popular culture by Madonna and Demi Moore in the early 2000’s – “we come to understand that challenges are opportunities for growth. Often we are faced with these challenges in pursuit of our most passionate goals, but it is through life’s challenges that we can find the greatest gifts.”
In order to help us do just that, Berg will give instructions, tools, and motivation to eradicate the fears that are holding us back from our best lives. “We will discuss interactively how to face, understand, and in some cases embrace, but ultimately grow from our fears,” she explains.
“I find New Yorkers in particular to be spiritually hungry,” says Berg, who’s thrilled to be speaking in her home city. “I believe that you have something to learn from every person you meet and New York gives me the opportunity to talk to more strangers than any other place I’ve been.”
