NYC Pop-Up Shop Prevails with the Help of Non-Profit, Chashama

Chashama, a non-profit organization founded in 1995 by Anita Durst, is partnering with NYC Department of Small Business Services to bring financial stability, commerce, beauty, and hope back to NYC with the Storefront Startup program.

One of the biggest challenges facing small businesses is access to capital for commercial leases, an issue made more difficult during the pandemic. Storefront Startup was created in direct response to the pandemic, connecting small businesses with storefront pop-ups at no cost to the business owner.

Accepting applications from business owners residing in priority neighborhoods throughout New York City, the Storefront Startup program aims to:

  • Restore local tourism and foot traffic to neighborhoods.
  • Generate jobs for local residents.
  • Revitalize vacant storefronts.
  • Support local small businesses that reflect the culture and character of their neighborhoods.
  • Re-invigorate the neighborhoods with connection and hope.

Chashama has just got word that the NYC SBS will be renewing the Storefront Startup program for the 2022 fiscal year!
