Visitors to New York City are often overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of things to see, along with the hefty price tags that can accompany many attractions. Thanks to NYC Winter Outing, held from January 21 to February 9, 2020, visitors can experience a wide variety of specially discounted events and attractions designed to inspire overnight trips during the winter months.
NYC & Company, New York City’s official destination marketing organization, has announced the return of NYC Winter Outing. Originally launched in January 2019, NYC Winter Outing combines NYC & Company’s three signature promotional programs — NYC Broadway Week, NYC Restaurant Week and NYC Must-See Week — creating ultimate value across the five boroughs. During the three-week period, select Broadway shows, attractions, museums, tours and performing arts will offer two-for-one tickets and nearly 400 restaurants will feature prix-fixe menus for lunch and dinner. Additionally, the city’s hotels offer the most attractive rates of the year.
Reservations for these winter value programs commence on January 8, 2020. “Following an overwhelmingly positive response, we’re pleased to welcome NYC Winter Outing back for its second year, adding unmatched value to the enchanting experiences offered across the five boroughs during the winter months,” said NYC & Company president and CEO Fred Dixon.
New this year, NYC & Company’s global partnership with Mastercard provides Mastercard holders with exclusive offers that take advantage of NYC Winter Outing, including early access to reservations and tickets. “It is Mastercard’s priority to provide cardholders with experiences in top travel destinations around the world across the passions that bring us together. Partnering with NYC & Company to simultaneously promote theater, dining and culture in NYC is the perfect way to emphasize that commitment,” said Cheryl Guerin, executive vice president of North America Marketing & Communications at Mastercard.
NYC Winter Outing features: 21 shows participating in NYC Broadway Week; museums, tours, attractions and performing arts venues participating in NYC Must-See Week; and restaurants participating in NYC Restaurant Week. The website also features a “favoriting” tool which allows visitors to save a list of Winter Outing participants that will be bookable once reservations begin on Jan. 8. Currently visitors can book overnight accommodations to take advantage of special rates. Furthermore, the NYC Winter Outing landing page provides inspiration through a handful of mini-itineraries curated to unique traveler interests that include: “An Art-Filled Day in NYC,” “A Classic Day in NYC,” “A Family Day in NYC” and “A Glam Day in NYC.”
Some experience include Art Smart, which provides private, custom art tours and experiences through NYC’s major museums and galleries such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and Chelsea galleries. Another attraction, Escape Virtuality, has two motion racing simulators, which allow participants to get behind the wheel of race cars on iconic tracks. They also house four multi-directional treadmills to walk in place while moving a VR character throughout the map.
Some of the restaurants that will participate in the Winter Outing include the iconic Russian Tea Room which is a sanctuary of refinement, fine cuisine and elegance, and a bastion of delicious, decadent, glamorous fun. Fish Cheeks Restaurant has a cheeky design. Its awning is layered like colorful fish scales, primary colors brighten the cafeteria-like dining room and overturned baskets serve as lampshades overhead. Brothers and co-chefs Chat and Ohm Suansilphong offer dishes at varying levels of spiciness including coconut crab curry and steamed whole fish with aromatic Thai herbs. Non-seafood items like grilled pork cheeks with jeaw sauce and potent cocktails are also exemplary.
No trip to the Big Apple is complete without experiencing a lavish Broadway musical or dramatic play. Shows such as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic, The Phantom of the Opera, and Chicago, which features standing-ovation songs and slinky dancing, are among those offering discounted tickets as part of NYC Winter Outing.
Although January and February can be slow travel periods, New York City’s Winter Outing is out to change that perception with its wide array of discounted experiences that offer something for everyone’s tastes.
