1 Accessories: GUNAS

At the top of the list is GUNAS handbags and accessories. Started in 2009 by award-winning designer and animal lover, Sugandh G. Agrawal, GUNAS believes we can look and feel good without harming other living beings. I am a particular fan of the Cottontail Handbag. Its gorgeous, vegan leather design includes a bow accent, which you can purchase in multiple colors to customize your look. My first purchase was two bags and five total bows to take me from day to night and season to season. Even better is knowing the company supports a variety of animal, human, and environmental foundations, including Woodstock Farm Sancutary, the Jane Goodall Institute, RedRobinSong Animal Sanctuary, and the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.

2 Clothing: Cuyana

Cuyana’s beautiful clothing is nothing short of spectacular. “Fewer, better” is the philosophy behind the brand. They create timeless collections for the modern woman through carefully selected fabrics, precise silhouettes, and attention to detail. Something that Marie Kondo would probably love, the entire point of Cuyana is to own fewer staples of beautiful, functional, fashionable clothing, so you don’t end up with a wasteful closet of impulse buys or bygone trends that result in more clothing going into landfills. Their materials are also 96% sustainable, and their collection is crafted with integrity and kindness by skilled craftsmen throughout Europe, South America, China, and the United States.. This is clothing you will look great in today and 10 years from now! It’s a worthwhile investment in fashionable sustainability.

3 Shoes: Rothy’s

Sustainable and chic footwear by the famed brand, Rothy’s, takes sustainability to a whole new level. They divert plastic bottles from landfills and transform them into its signature thread, which they then knit into durable, washable, and sustainable styles like shoes, bags, and accessories. In their own words, “Who knew water bottles could look and feel this good?” Comfortable, washable, and always in style, Rothy’s footwear—particularly the classic, The Point Flat—are staples for any philanthropic fashionista.

Hats off to our top three sustainable fashion brands for staying true to a mission of protecting the earth through truly innovative methods and style savvy. They also care for the teams who are manufacturing their goods in a world where cheap labor runs rife. It takes time, investment, and effort to not take the easy route for less-expensive fashion that will fill our closets, and for that, we applaud GUNAS, Cuyana, and Rothy’s for going the extra mile on the journey to sustainable fashion that is accessible to all.
