West Coast living for East Coast dwellers…the best of what to do the next time you’re in California.

The Resort at Pelican Hill

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Southern California’s beautiful Newport Beach is one of the world’s most fabulous Five-Star hotels—The Resort at Pelican Hill.

Drive an hour south of LA and you will arrive at a sanctuary of peace, beauty, and tranquility encompassed in chic Italian architecture and a feeling like you’ve just arrived in Southern Europe.

The Resort at Pelican Hill sets a high standard of luxury and excellence, which is displayed in its Bungalow guest rooms, 36-hole championship golf course, award-winning spa, world-class dining, and signature Coliseum Pool inspired by Rome’s famous landmark.

The Bungalows are truly a home away from home with incredible attention to detail, so you want for nothing. High wood-beam ceilings create a spacious environment, while the Italian limestone fireplace generates a cozy feel. And with a deep soaking marble tub, Bose sound system, decadent 500-thread count sheets on the comfiest of beds, and a private terrace with ocean views to relax on, no wonder this resort continues to be a Five-Diamond rated destination.

The Spa at Pelican Hill is indulgent and a reinvigorates all of your senses. Relax and renew at the Forbes Five-Star rated sanctuary. Choose from the saltwater Roman soaking tub, eucalyptus steam room, or sauna to get you started. Then venture into one of the 22 relaxing treatment rooms to experience an array of incredible body, facial, and massage treatments. The wellness program also offers fit

ness classes, daily beach walks, a full-service salon, and a mindful spa cuisine menu.

And for a full and delicious epicurean experience during your stay, the menu at Andrea Ristorante is the embodiment of true Italian flavors with a focus on Tuscan influences.

In addition to the curation of 2,000 bottles of Italy’s finest wines, Chef Jonah Amodt delivers an abundance of mouth-watering dishes to choose from at the Resort’s signature al fresco restaurant. Delivering the best of California’s fresh and organic produce to your plate utilizing traditional Italian preparations makes for a spectacular dining experience. The tableside risotto wheel presentation is a long-standing favorite, and all of the handmade pastas are created in-house. You will not make a bad selection from the outstanding menu but highlights are the lobster bucatini, Colorado lamb chops with pistachio pesto and the chocolate soufflé. Bellissimo!

Coasterra Cuisine

Breathtaking views of the San Diego skyline, delicious modern Mexican cuisine, solid tequila-focused cocktails, and great ambience makes Coasterra one of the most sought after reservations in the bustling city.

The large 28,000-square-foot bay front restaurant, lounge, and event space is a unique dining experience. Chef Deborah Scott has conjured up a spectacular menu, including fresh seafood dishes like the lobster and black bean flauta, her signature tableside guacamole cart prepared by “Guacamigos,” and the house favorite, Mary y Tierra—a tantalizing beef short rib smothered in Oaxacan mole sauce on a bed of lobster risotto.

And for dessert, the buttercake with roasted plantain ice cream, drizzled with caramel, is all you’ve ever dreamed of to perfectly end your meal. Delicioso!

Coastal Kitchen

Dana Point is a beautiful historic district in SoCal’s Orange County that’s close enough to LA for a day trip to take in the relaxed, scenic atmosphere of the beach town.

While there, check out is Coastal Kitchen, a new addition to the culinary landscape, which specializes in fresh, sustainable seafood, farm-fresh salads, and dry-aged steaks.

The decor is stunning. Large wooden tables, rope and metal light fixtures, a navy and white nautical theme and a beautiful white marble bar come together to make a delightful oceanside vibe.

The New-American coastal cuisine menu is simple but perfectly executed. Pork belly bites with a ginger glaze are deserving of a second order—they’re that good! The scallops with a pineapple mango salsa are a hit, and the s’mores pie is just decadent.

Husband and wife team Christina and Mike Grant have created a delightfully delicious dining experience in Dana Point that will keep you coming back for more, not only for the food, but also for the amazing service, which also deserves a commendable mention. You’ll love it there!
