Quick Tips from Makeup Artist Rachel Paul

What’s the best red for my skin tone?
The holiday season is the perfect time to gather your confidence and strut your stuff in a rich, luxurious red lip. For all of you red lip veterans, you have already experienced the magical powers that a bold lip brings, but are you wearing the right red for you?
Light complexion: tomato and fire engine reds
Medium complexion: true red that leans toward a blue base
Deep complexion: wine and oxblood reds
So swipe on your red and let your lips do the talking without saying a word!
I have a last-minute breakout! What should I do?
Pounding makeup on top of a pimple will only bring attention to it and – even worse – could spread the infection. Try a concealer that contains treatment (such as salicylic acid) to heal and conceal at the same time. Two of my favorites are Neutrogena Skin Clearing Blemish Concealer and Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Concealer. With those on hand, you won’t miss a beat.
What’s the quickest way to get party-ready?
‘Tis the season with parties around every corner, so how do you glam up your look in a moment’s notice? Add drama to your eyes with Trish McEvoy’s intense gel eye pencil in black along the lash line, using the smudger to create a sultry look. Layer an extra coat of mascara and you will be batting those lashes all night long. Finish off with some highlighting powder above the cheekbones and a shiny nude lip gloss or a universally flattering red such as Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer #400 to make a statement.
My top powder picks:
Light complexion: Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlighter #1
Medium complexion: Diorskin Poudre Shimmer in Amber Diamond #2
Deep complexion: Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Gold Deposit
