Let’s face it – Fashion designers don’t always create clothes that suit the needs of real women. Here, BELLA shows you the five most wearable styles from the spring 2013 runways.
1. Posh Shorts
This season, designers opted for (almost) office-appropriate long shorts and short suits. Gilles Mendel and Cynthia Rowley showed short suits in delicately patterned neutrals, while J. Mendel experimented with optical effects in his textured silk Bermuda shorts.
2. Black and White
We dare you to name one working woman who doesn’t own black and white clothing. Designers proved that this classic color combination can still look fierce this season. Sleek styles with contrasting accents and well-paired separates in these colors à la Nicole Miller, Milly and Rachel Zoe will work with any wardrobe.
3. Peekaboo Dresses
Flashes of collarbones and midriffs add intrigue to this season’s dresses but don’t threaten overexposure – perfect for a night out with the girls or a fabulous first date. Nanette Lepore kept her styles soft with revealing lace inserts and sheer panels, while J. Mendel and Katya Leonovich showed models’ skins with strategic cutouts.
4. Luxe Leathers
Michael Kors, J. Mendel and Milly and crafted rich colored and embellished leathers into sleek tops, shorts and dresses for spring. With collections hitting stores in February, there is plenty of time to try these looks before temperatures rise later this season. Plus, these timeless shapes will be fashionable for years to come.
5. Seeing Stripes
Whether horizontal or vertical, diagonal or straight, stripes were all over the spring runways. Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Vivienne Tam showed their stripes on everything from separates to evening wear.
