Re(Emergence) Essentials

Summer is in full effect and as the lockdown and quarantine rules lift, we can all look forward to getting out doing what we do best – being seen.  Re-emerging from your cocoon like the beautiful butterfly you are might take a bit of handy upkeep. Check out these brands for a quick DIY fix for your next trip, be it to the grocery store or across the country.

We can’t all re-emerge post pandemic with a new face like a Kardashian. Or can we? Say hello to MesoLyft from Masha Amelina, the inventor and founder of Visage Sculpture—a cosmetic clinic in Boston. Her products focus on non-surgical face shaping. The MesoLyft Face Resurfacing Serum is an all-in-one beauty tool that combines potent anti-aging hydrating serums and science with its 0.15 mm micro-needle derma roller you can use at home. Available for your neck, eyes, lips and face. The tool helps to increase hydration and improve the look of pores and fine lines.

We may be used to taking vitamins orally, but have we ever taken them topically? Just add the powdered turbo booster b3 and turbo booster b5 vitamin booster to your existing water-based moisturizer or serum. Don’t worry about precision or it being messy, each boost comes with a tiny scoop to ration out your vitamins. The b3 contains 100% topical niacinamide powder and improves the look of wrinkles, firmness, and uneven skin tone.  The pro-vitamin b5 helps increase hydration in addition to having soothing properties.

MDSolarSciences (MDSS)

MDSolarSciences (MDSS) was founded on the belief on the importance of wearing sunscreen every day. The all-natural formulas are designed with all skin types and skin tones in mind, making it effortless for everybody to stay protected from sun damage and get the benefits of great skincare. The entire sun protection collection is clean, reef-safe and cruelty-free with no oxybenzone or octinoxate—two ingredients known to irritate skin and cause harm to ocean life. I’m a fan of the MD Crème Mineral BB SPF50 during the warm summer months. It’s complete with tinted coverage and SPF 50 which is great for a primer or on its own.

From one of the fastest growing brands in Australia, comes this vegan-friendly hair growth line. After two years of development, utilizing key ingredients like peppermint, rosemary, saw palmetto, this product strengthens hair follicles, promotes hair growth and stimulates circulation. I was pleasantly surprised to find the top ingredient in both the shampoo and conditioner is Aloe Vera, which is very gentle for your scalp. I’m currently working my way through the Essentials set which includes shampoo, conditioner, masque, intensive spray and hair growth support supplements and I can already see that my hair is less frizzy in the heat.

Urban Veda

Urban Veda is truly a family affair. Manganlal Shah, an Ayurvedic practitioner, became one of the first to bring the ancient Indian healing philosophy to the UK in the 1960s. Manganlal inspired his son, Sheilesh to start Urban Veda 5 years ago. Looking to balance our elements or ‘doshas’ that are responsible for physical and psychological body functions, the line has four different ranges: Purifying (Kapha), Radiance (Vata), Soothing (Pitta), and Reviving (Tri-Doshic). Each range has moisturizers and cleansers that address specific skin ailments like acne, inflammation, dehydration and sensitivity.  Take their online quiz and find out about your dosha and aligning skin type with recommendations on skincare, diet, stress management, and essential oils. My dosha is Pitta which speaks to my ambitious nature and sensitive skin.

meejee’s Cooling facial globes are made from borosilicate glass and when massaged on your face, they can create a cooling or warming treatment based on your skin’s needs. They are non-toxic, BPA-free and contain biodegradable gel. In fact, meejee works directly with Plastic Bank to save 100 ocean-bound bottles with every purchase made on their site. The facial globes are easy to use and can be used for more than just reducing under-eye darkness and puffiness.  Pop your facial globes into the fridge or freezer for a cooling massage that would help tone skin and reduce inflammation (great for apres sun). Pop the facial globes into warm water for a warming massage that would help improve blood circulation. You can even use the facial globes with your favorite serums, moisturizers and creams (MesoLyft, Urban Veda and MDSolarSciences perhaps?) to help improve their effectiveness.
