Snapshots from Palm Beach

Opulence is the theme when vacationing in Palm Beach, Florida, one of the wealthiest places in the United States, so it’s best to pamper yourself as if you’re one of the billionaires who call this place home. And since travel has been on the back burner, once you do begin planning trips again, it might be wise to move this domestic locale to the top of your list.

While one of the most well-known and luxurious properties is The Breakers, there’s many other five-star, top-rated hotels in the area. Among them, the Four Seasons Palm Beach offers guests lavish beachside suites, poolside cabanas, dive-in movies, a spa and even a perfumery. Nearby, Eau Palm Beach Resort gives visitors a fun and whimsical stay with interiors designed by Jonathan Adler, club level rooms complete with a personal concierge, and their unparalleled spa. You’ll never want to leave.

The Forbes Five Star-rated Eau Spa is akin to heaven on earth — begin your ascent by placing a candle, along with a “self-centered” wish in the wishing well, which leads out to the garden oasis. Here, you can lounge and relax in one of the many recliners, or dip your feet to cool off in water while you sit in one of their hanging chairs. Inside, treatments run the gamut, with facials, massages and body scrubs taking center stage. Make sure to budget in plenty of time to partake in the breathtaking indoor jacuzzi, or one of the many the amenities. It might just be the best spa I’ve ever visited. 100 South Ocean Boulevard

Lilly Pulitzer’s Worth Avenue store is like stepping into a bright, vibrant Monet painting. It’s walls are splashed with color, it’s dressing rooms bedazzled with seashells, and shelves stocked with all the Lilly you can imagine. The only Lilly location complete with a bar (yes, you can sip while you shop), this store has secrets up its sleeve. For those in the know, you can head in and design your own custom Lilly sheath dress or even have one of their artists hand-paint one of their bags for you. 240 Worth Avenue

Sink your teeth into some of the area’s finest food while exploring the glitzy neighborhoods of Palm Beach. Café Boulud’s dover sole is worth a trip in and of itself, and is artistically fileted tableside, while poolside brunch at The Colony’s CPB restaurant makes for the perfect Sunday funday. After a delicious dinner at Eau’s Angle restaurant, we recommend capping off the night with a drink or two next door at The Champagne Room. Tucked away inside this intimate lounge you will be seduced by their well-balanced craft cocktails and elegant vibe. Nearby, Florie’s at the Four Seasons is another great option for an evening in. Everything from their drinks to entrees to desserts will impress.

Worth Avenue in Palm Beach is like the Fifth Avenue of Manhattan. It’s where people shop. Pop in to their Tiffany & Co., where you can ogle all of the diamonds, and learn about the iconic history of the brand. The staff couldn’t be nicer. Not too far away lies a rare gem of a shop, Raptis Rare Books, which houses rare and antique pieces of history, that is always changing. If you’re lucky, you might spy their signed copy of The Great Gatsby or a first edition of Anne Frank’s diary, inscribed by Eleanor Roosevelt.

Island Living Tours is known for their educational and entertaining tours around the city, and thanks to founder Leslie Diver’s expertise, it makes for a bundle of active fun! There are an array of tours to choose from, however one of their most popular is their Estate Section and Historic Worth Avenue biking tour. On the leisurely tour you will see some of the ritziest estates, learn about intriguing, and sometimes sordid, history of residents both past and present.

While Palm Beach is all about luxury, opulence and relaxation, there’s a lot more to do here than just lie on the beach. Take a tour of the Flagler Museum, a beautiful piece of the city’s history, and take in the stunning decor, elegant views and afternoon tea. Hit up a polo match while you’re there — the International Polo Club has a full schedule of events, and an afternoon sipping champagne and rooting for your newfound favorite team will add excitement to your stay. Take a cruise on the waters in a sailboat to see Palm Beach from a different angle. A breeze in the hair and mimosas on board will have you living the good life.

(And don’t forget to mask up on your adventures, stick to social distancing, and use your best judgement when planning any upcoming travel!)
