Surviving self-isolation: Beauty and health edition

While we have spent more time at home lately than we liked to (or perhaps it’s a welcomed break for a few), I have realized that there are some products and services I frankly miss from the COVID – free life. So lately I have been looking online to find brands that ship directly to my door to help me maintain my pre-pandemic lifestyle. Here are a few of the most notable:

I miss manicures. And while I was taking a well-needed break from my gel polish, I’m looking forward to getting them done again. I’m not great with a steady hand to apply polish, so I’m glad that ManiMe has created custom cut gel manicure stickers. Using 3D scanning, the stickers are made for you– right down to your nail curvature. All you have to do is upload your nail photos, purchase your favorite styles and apply in cinch. It’s toxin-free, Leaping Bunny certified and removal is easy without acetone/alcohol.

Have you done some Spring-cleaning now that you have the time? I sure have. Let’s clean up those cupboards of expired medication, even the ones full of sugar, dye and artificial flavors – like those energy packages that give you an extra boost of Vitamin C. It’s hard to find medication that is both effective and not harsh on your organs, yet Hilma fits the bill. The line is formulated by practicing doctors, scientists and herbalists that provides immune support, tension relief, upset stomach relief and allergy support. Using clinically effective herbal ingredients like Echinacea, ivy extract, turmeric and ginger, the products can be delivered straight to your door on a buy once or subscription basis.

Nugg Beauty:

Now that we aren’t leaving the house as often and putting on makeup, we can address those skin issues we all have. Whether its dry, sensitive, brightening – Nugg Beauty, coined as a cute but serious (which also describes me!) line, has an array of facial masks and lip scrubs with accolades to prove it. Leaping Bunny certified, 9x Allure Best of Beauty winner, 93% to 100% natural, with all lip products being vegan. I’m currently using the Aqua Boost hydrating gel face & sleep mask with the easy-to-use spout pouch; the aloe juice is both calming and hydrating. Found online and at your local store (Whole Foods, Target and Amazon), this is beauty that won’t break the bank.

Essence One:

I have the best Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) ever! I’ve moved from being her client to becoming a friend. Of course, it’s sad that we have to cancel our monthly catch up sessions because of the pandemic and my sore muscles are feeling it! These Essence One shower steamers can give you a relaxing essential oil experience, without the time commitment of a bath. These are especially helpful if you don’t even have a tub at home. Drop one onto the shower floor, letting the water stream break it down and disperse. Then take a shower surrounded by a blend of different scents including lavender, eucalyptus, spearmint, bergamot, patchouli and grapefruit. Come out of the shower feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the day. Found online at Paper Source.

Performance Kitchen:

I’m not big on frozen ready-made meals because I always find the variety/flavour to be bleak and the nutritional value to be lacking (sugar and sodium, poor quality proteins, insufficient whole grain). Performance Kitchen changed my mind however, as they work with a team of chefs and registered dieticians to develop entrees with real, wholesome ingredients. In fact, you can even book a nutritional consult online with a registered dietician to help you find a meal plan right for you. A brand backed by three award-winning athletes such as Natalie Coughlin, Russell Wilson and Derek Jeter, Performance Kitchen offers a variety of meals and bundles including Pregnancy, Keto-friendly/Carb wise, Comfort food, Mediterranean Style, and Marathon training. Available at groceries (US & Canada) and online, the super quick delivery service is top notch.
