“Giving back was instilled in me so it’s only natural for me to want to help and engage with as many people as I can.”
Cindy Vero is a popular radio personality. Vero covers different topics that range from pop culture, celebrity 411 and feel-good news, to traffic, weather and more.
Vero shares her platform with local small business owners and organizations to promote events for charitable causes. It’s how we connected several months ago and why I wanted to share with you Vero’s infectious laughter, energy and giving spirit.
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you start in this business and how long have you been hosting radio?
I started as an intern at WYN, which turned into KTU. I ran the boards, worked in promotions and events – I even cleaned fridges and cars! I also interned and did some freelance work at MTV News because I was still on the fence about going into radio or hard news on TV. I got my first break doing board op work and on air at WTBQ-AM in Florida, NY. I learned a lot of what not to do!
I’ve always loved radio and would listen to every channel on the dial growing up. I became intrigued by what was going on on the other side of the speaker. I loved listening to live interviews and wanted to be a part of that somehow! It amazes me to this day just how powerful radio is and how it continues to connect people everyday. To be able to share, laugh, cry and do almost everything with the audience just blows me away! The raw connection is what it’s all about!
How do you feel your voice impacts the community you serve?
It has opened me up to so many diverse and wonderful people and organizations that continue to do incredible things everyday. For me to be able to highlight these hometown heroes and let more people know about what great work they are doing is my honor!
Why is it is important to give back, and how can others get involved in your efforts?
Giving back was instilled in me, so it’s only natural for me to want to help and engage with as many people as I can and provide them with the platform to speak about what they’re so passionate about! It’s easy to get involved when you find something that strikes a chord with you. For me it’s been any causes related to animals but especially the Lustgarten Foundation, which supports pancreatic cancer research. They will have my support until the end of time.
