The Beauty of Giving Back: Inclusive Beauty Brands that Give Back

Perhaps more than ever before, the beauty market embraces consumers of varying backgrounds. Not only do more product options exist in beautifully diverse hues, but women of color business owners and creators have come to the fore over the past several years. Adding to the step forward for the beauty industry is the fact that the following brands take the time and effort to give back to their communities.

When you’re deciding how to spend your self-care dollars, consider supporting women of color-owned businesses and helping for the greater good. What could possibly be more beautiful than that?!

Here are two of my favorites:

Bossy Cosmetics

With a mission of “Empowering women to look, feel, and do good,” its founder, Aisha Fatima Dozie, often says that “Bossy Cosmetics is a women’s empowerment and mission-driven business that masquerades as a beauty company.” Bossy’s guiding principles offer so much to love:

  • Igniting confidence in women who self-identify as being ambitious
  • Offering gorgeous and ethically-made beauty products for all people
  • Partnering with non-profit organizations that actively promote social change that advance the human rights of women and girls around the world

Bossy Cosmetics boasts a gorgeous and unique array of lip and eye products that look great on any woman and women of color in particular. The Lac Menara Marrakech Eyeliner is a top pick from Bossy Beauty, and with
its unique, grey-blue hue, it is next on my must-try list.

Beauty Bakerie 

Cashmere Nicole’s story is a powerful one of resilience and inspiration. She founded Beauty Bakerie in 2011
with the mission to be sweet and sweeten the lives of others. The Beauty Bakerie brand is a direct reflection
of Cashmere’s perseverance and passion for high-quality, healthy ingredients that enhance the beauty in everyone, every day. She followed that up in 2016 by founding Sugar Homes, a nonprofit that supports the needs of orphaned children worldwide.

The Beauty Bakerie brand has been dubbed “activists in makeup” for being vocal about injustices that span a variety of issues, including disparities within the beauty space, Black Lives Matter, The Dream Act, the Muslim ban, missing children, and human trafficking. This is all while offering an array of beautiful cosmetics.
