The Beauty of Giving Back: Mama Glow

Mothers have a natural tendency to connect to other mothers as they navigate the physical, psychological and emotional changes that come with motherhood. For entrepreneur, author and yogini Latham Thomas, a passion to forge valuable bonds among new and expectant mothers has became not only a successful business endeavor, but also an impactful movement that has improved the lives of many.

Thomas founded Mama Glow out of the need she saw for expectant and new mothers to have holistic resources and services that can support their journey into motherhood.

“Mama Glow is an abundant, radiant energy that comes from within. It’s about your initiation – birthing yourself as a powerful woman – as you prepare to give birth to your bundle of joy,” Thomas explains. “Birth is our rite of passage, and Mama Glow is our birth rite … to walk in grace, power and wisdom, to have understanding, reverence and trust in our bodies.”

Through Mama Glow, Thomas has been offering new moms resources like its signature “Salon Series” and annual “Film Fest,” since 2005 under a different name (the company was rebranded “Mama Glow” in 2012).

The “Salon Series” is a platform for birthing conversations around film, literature, performing arts, panel discussions and cocktail hours. The yearly film festival gathers Mama Glow icons every August in the Hamptons.

For Thomas, it’s all about outreach and connection. “It’s important to constantly support maternal organizations – we have worked with Choices in Childbirth and Every Mother Counts, and have recently engaged with and GEMS. Mothers are the crux of community and the future depends on our well-being. We have been able to support and affect the lives of thousands of women. We recently launched a new content site and mobile browser app, so now we can reach even more women.”

Infusing a dose of inspiration and giving people actionable solutions for lifestyle concerns along the maternal continuum is the only thing Thomas knows, she says. “As we rise, we make sure that we are lifting up others through our work. That is our mantra – to serve.”

Mama Glow even counts Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Alicia Keys, as a fan. “It wasn’t until I was pregnant that I became overly conscious of how much I only wanted to have positive things around me – people, food and energy! I also saw how easy it is to think of birth as a series of decisions that someone else is making for us. But we women are powerful and almighty, and Mama Glow helps show us just how empowered we can be all the way throughout this glorious time in our lives!”
