The Cutting Room Hosts Fundraiser To Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Raise Funds For Resident Artist Kathrina Miccio

The Cutting Room, New York City’s premier live performance venue, was figuratively painted pink this past Sunday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, which attracted TV news anchor and author Rita Cosby, a host of other celebrity guests, and special video messages from the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and opera legend Andrea Bocelli, benefitted resident artist Kathrina Miccio in her personal fight against breast cancer. Upon her diagnosis this past August, Miccio founded Paint Us Pink, a non-profit funding program designed to help women in the arts while in treatment.

“Kathrina is an integral part of The Cutting Room family,” said Steve Walter, owner of The Cutting Room. “When I learned about her breast cancer diagnosis, I wanted to help increase breast cancer awareness  and raise funds for this beloved and talented New York artist and make-up artist.”

Miccio, surrounded by her art on display at The Cutting Room, was moved by the support of her peers, friends, and family, especially after an initial ride awakening regarding her financial situation during treatment.

“When I was told by one funding organization that I should move out of my apartment and live with my 83 year old father, I was taken aback, but then my fear started to fade,” said Miccio. “I became my own warrior, and I started Paint Us Pink.”

With 18 months of chemotherapy treatments, surgery, and radiation ahead of her, Miccio is grateful for the support of her friends, family, and those moved by the Paint Us Pink message to “Take a deep breath and focus on your health, your creative mind, and your recovery.”

“It is so very hard to focus on healing while struggling with financial issues,” says Miccio, “but Paint Us Pink will alleviate a lot of the burden and take that area of stress off for myself and for other artists like me.”

The event was also attended by actor Larry Romano, singer-songwriter Tomaczek Bednarek, comedian Maeve Higgins, producer Joycelyn Engle, and 25A Magazine Publisher Chase Backer. The food was donated by Sacco and Vanzetti NYC.
