They have now released new expressions in the Double Cask range, both The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old and 18 Years old, which sell for $135 and $330, respectively. Within the 12 Years Old you can find notes of wood spices, raisin and caramel, with a sweet dry finish. The 15 Years Old also has raisin and wood spice notes, along with sultana and hint of vanilla and ginger, while the 18 Years Old combines flavors of raisin, sultana, vanilla, caramel, ginger, wood spices and citrus, with a lingering sweet orange finish. While all three are in the Double Cask range, they each have a distinct, smooth taste.

“Bringing together American and European oak sherry seasoned casks to achieve the perfect balance of flavors is incredibly exciting,” Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell notes. “Oak influence is the single greatest contributor to the quality, natural color and distinctive aromas and flavors at the heart of The Macallan’s single malts.”

To commemorate the new Double Cask expressions, acclaimed Magnum photographer Steve McCurry travelled worldwide to document the wood journey that is so ever present in final Macallan products. From the forests of northern Spain and the French Pyrenees to more the more local Kentucky, Missouri and Ohioan forests and finally to the Speyside distillery, McCurry captures new footage of every detail that goes into a meticulously crafted bottle of The Macallan.

For the first time ever, consumers can participate in a virtual experience along with The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team for “The Macallan Whisky Bench Experience: Discover the Double Cask Journey From Acorn to Glass.” Behind the scenes peeks at the incredibly long journey it takes to create these drinkable works of art, along with Lead Whisky Maker Sarah Burgess, Master of Wood Stuart MacPherson, and Kirsteen Campbell, who will explain and detail the entire process, and participate in a live Q&A, make it a must-attend event for any whisky lover.
