The New Yorker 9:" Al Roker – NYC’s Favorite Weatherman

NYC’s most beloved weatherman and TV personality is a true New Yorker at heart. Born and raised in Queens, NY, Roker studied communications at college in Oswego, NY, where he got his first shot at weathercasting. He returned to New York in 1983 when he made his way up the ranks for various networks until eventually landing the job as weatherman for NBCs “TODAY” show in 1996.

It’s been nothing but sunny (career) skies for Roker ever since. He’s a nine- time Emmy winner and has produced programs for PBS, MSNBC, and CNBC as well as the popular Food Network series “Roker on the Road.” In addition, Al Roker Productions, Inc. is responsible for the critically acclaimed PBS weather special, “Savage Skies,” as well as the highly rated travel series “Going Places.”

Roker’s highly publicized gastric bypass surgery in 2002 lead to him to dropping 100 pounds in just eight months and he’s remained an image of healthy happiness. Married to fellow journalist Deborah Roberts, Roker is also the proud father to three children.
