The Original Skinnygirl® Bethenny Frankel Kicked Off the Tastemakers Series at Flywheel Sports

On Tuesday, Sept. 29th, Bethenny Frankel kicked off the Skinnygirl® Tastemaker Series at Flywheel Sports. After an exhilarating  and challenging cycling class with Lissa Smith, attendees sipped on Skinnygirl® cocktails and hung out with Bethenny. BELLA was there!

As Skinnygirl® set up their signature margaritas, the attendees’ eyed their post-spin reward while buckling on their Flywheel spin shoes. Bethenny greeted everyone as we got set up on our bikes and gave us some helpful pointers on form and reminded us to engage our core for the best workout. She’s been spinning for years and certainly has the results to show for it, so we all took note of her advice.

1) I just read the New Yorker piece on you and the writer, Lizzie Widdicombe, referred to you as a “celebpreneur”. Is that how you see yourself?

Bethenny: I think I’m a business woman who happens to use entertainment as a vehicle.

2) What’s the most important advice you’d give to anyone wanting to start their own business?

Bethenny: Execution is the name of the game, and never assume anyone is smarter than you.

3) Do you have any health and workout tips for the BELLA New York readers? Do you think that a good figure is ultimately made in the kitchen and not in the gym?

Bethenny: Food is 90 percent but exercise is critical for mental state, to calm “food noise”,  to make us happy (depression makes us eat more), sleep better (lack of sleep makes us eat more), and healthier. I do what I can when I can. I do all sorts of things: yoga is my first choice then I switch it up depending the time of year and where I am. In the winter I snowboard sometimes and in the summer I do beach walks. Sometimes I take a few weeks off because of work. Sleep comes first.

4) What do you think will be the next fitness trend?

Bethenny: Edgier less spiritual yoga

5) Do you have any spoilers on what new products we can expect from your Skinnygirl brand?

Bethenny: Coffee, ice cream, brownies and candy. Yum!

The first song on the playlist, Alicia Key’s Girl on Fire, was Bethenny’s favorite song and it set the tone for one killer workout thanks the motivating instruction of a Flywheel favorite, Lissa Smith. Lissa’s class was super challenging but went by fast thanks to her great playlist and inspirational cues.

Then it was time to towel off and hang with Bethenny. She made an inspiring connection between how spin class can be like life sometimes: you get to these points in the workout that feel so challenging and insurmountable that you feel like you just can’t make it and then you surprise yourself and get through it. She shared entrepreneurship tips and was asked who does her eyebrows (she has no particular go-to spot and even joked that one of us could do them!).

She graciously took photos with everyone (and we were quite sweaty after that ride!) and then raised a glass and thanked everyone for coming out to spin and sip with Flywheel and Skinnygirl®.
