Whether we like it or not, fall is here. The Equinox occurred last month, leaves are changing color and the annual Pumpkin Spice flavor/ scent has started to return to stores near you. As the seasons change, we also reach for that great layering outerwear piece that can take us from that brisk chilly morning to that after-sundown shade. Here are some of the season’s best cuts from cropped to long, in a myriad of textures and materials:
Short Length Outerwear
The love of everything crop continues this fall. This Mews Cropped Jacket by LoveShackFancy ties in the elegance of a textured wool, with the dramatic pattern of houndstooth. Shown here in Pink Hills for pre-order, the Harvest white is available now. This double-breasted jacket has oversized pearl and gold buttons with pleated puffed sleeves to complete that Jackie O look. Make it a matching suit by adding the Gibson skirt for an Emily in Paris/Gossip Girl vibe.
This is a combo of two Fall favorites – shearling and leather. The Unreal Shearling Moto Jacket by Bernardo gives you the style of a motorcycle leather jacket, hitting at the waist, with the warmth of the soft shearling. All while being faux and vegan!. As an extra bonus, (unlike real leather) the jacket requires just a machine wash in cold water and hang to dry to keep clean.
The Nina Nieves Cape is a fan favorite of Eva Longoria and brought to you from designer sister duo, Kaidy Jimenez Solesky and Karol Jimenez Pagano. The handmade merino wool capes are lined with luxurious satin and hold in place with a well-placed hook. Available in Scarlett Red, Nightfall Black, Ecru Ivory and Sandcastle Camel with a limited-edition Lavender Purple. I’m looking forward to wearing mine with my knee-high boots and a structured hat this fall. Perfect for holiday, preorders launched this month for the Bouclé Knit Collection, available in Black, Red, Camel and a festive Raspberry.
What is a great Fall outfit without layers? The Skyline Maxi Bomber by Frank + Oak has snaps to allow you to layer with other Smart-Layer outwear. Made with a featherless Thermore® Ecodown®, you can pop it in the washer and dryer for easy care.

What do you get you when you combine a shirt with a jacket? You get a shacket. Trust me, this is a thing. And of course, brands are doing it in all sorts of plaid, the quintessential fabric of fall. Wonderful for frolicking through a pumpkin patch or just running from the gym. It’s thin enough to wear a dress with boots, or layer over tights as a top for a more casual look. This Greta Long Length Faux Wool from NOIZE just dropped this week for your shopping pleasure.
From one Canadian brand to another, this HiSO Oversized Boiled Wool Coat is fall/winter at its best. There is nothing more timeless than a black wool coat.
